Pela was an American indie rock band from Brooklyn known for their intense live performances. History Pela's history goes back to the early ’90s when lead vocalist and guitarist William McCarthy met Christopher Herb. As best friends they worked at a mall together after dropping out of high school, and then traveled around the world together playing music in various cities. Herb and McCarthy began a folk project called Igloo Gazelle in New York City in 2001. In early 2002, Herb had a chance meeting with Eric Sanderson on a subway platform at 7th avenue in Brooklyn where Herb was busking. Sanderson was invited to a practice session and joined the band shortly thereafter. In late 2002, Herb abruptly moved to Australia for four years. Chinese Wax
Chinese wax, insect wax ( zh, 蟲蠟), whitewax or pela ( zh, 白蠟) is a white to yellowish-white, gelatinous, crystalline water-insoluble substance obtained from the wax secreted by certain insects. It may be used for the production of candles and polishes, and for the sizing of paper. It resembles spermaceti but is harder, more friable, and with a higher melting point. Production Two scale insects produce the wax: '' Ceroplastes ceriferus'', common in China and India, and the related '' Ericerus pela'', found in China and Japan. These insects deposit their secretions on the branches of certain species of ''Ligustrum'' (privet) tree. The insects and their secretions are harvested and boiled with water to extract the raw wax. The insect bodies, which settle to the bottom, are used as food for swine. A description of the cultivation of the insect for wax production is given in a November 1932 article from the ''Nature Magazine'': The substance scraped off the branches is boile ...

Pelabresib
Pelabresib (CPI-0610; PELA) is an investigational oral small-molecule drug designed to inhibit bromodomain and extra-terminal domain (BET)-mediated gene transcription involved in the pathogenesis of myelofibrosis (MF) and other myeloproliferative neoplasms. Developed by Constellation Pharmaceuticals, a Novartis company, pelabresib targets epigenetic pathways to modulate oncogenic and inflammatory gene expression, offering a novel therapeutic approach for MF patients with limited treatment options. As of May 2025, pelabresib is in Phase III clinical trials for MF and has shown promising results in combination with ruxolitinib, a Janus kinase inhibitor (JAKi), but is not yet approved for clinical use. Mechanism of Action Pelabresib is a selective inhibitor of BET proteins (BRD2, BRD3, BRD4, BRDT), which regulate gene expression by binding to acetylated histones. In MF, BET proteins drive the expression of genes involved in nuclear factor kappa B (NF-κB) signaling, proinflammator ...
