Paulis is the former name of Isiro, the capital of Haut-Uele Province in the northeastern part of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Isiro
Isiro () is the capital of Haut-Uele Province in the northeastern part of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. It lies between the Tropical rainforest, equatorial forest and the savannah and its main resource is coffee. Isiro's population is estimated at approximately 182,000. Most people speak Pa-Zande (Zande language), Lingala and Swahili language, Swahili. History Isiro was named ''Paulis'' after colonel, later diplomat, when it was part of the Belgian Congo. The city was developed in 1934 and reached its peak in 1957. In the troubled days of Congo's independence and its aftermath, operation ''Black Dragoon'' brought fighting between Belgian paratroopers and local Simba Rebellion, Simba militias. In 1998, Isiro became the home of a newly created Dominican Order, Dominican-operated university called ''University of Uélé, Université de l'Uélé''. Păuliș () is a commune in Arad County, Romania, It is composed of four villages: Barațca (''Pálosbaracka''), Cladova (''Kalodva''), Păuliș, and Sâmbăteni (''Szabadhely''). Geography The commune lies on the banks of the Mureș River and its right tributary, the Cladova. It is situated at an altitude of , in the contact zone of the Mureș Couloir with the Arad Plateau and the . The administrative territory of the commune is . The commune centre is located in the south-central part of the county, east of the county seat, Arad. Ilse Paulis (born 30 July 1993) is a Dutch representative rower. She is a world champion, a dual Olympian, an Olympic gold medallist and has set three world's best times, two of which are standing world records as of 2021. She is racing the lightweight women's double scull with Marieke Keijser at Tokyo 2021. Club and education Paulis rowed collegiately for the Ohio State Buckeyes.
