Paul Martin (radio Presenter)
Paul 'The Axeman' Martin is a New Zealand radio DJ and musician, and former DJ for The Rock. It began in Hamilton and later moved to Auckland. Over the years the station has been networked around New Zealand. The station broadcasts rock music from "the '80s, '90s and now". Career Martin was one of The Rock's longest serving jocks, presenting, programming and producing his weekly metal show The Axe Attack on the Rock since 1992. He has interviewed Slayer, Metallica, Fear Factory, Sepultura, Megadeth, Anthrax, Suicidal Tendencies, Lita Ford, Deftones, Rob Halford, Steve Vai and Max Cavalera. He writes for New Zealand music ''Rip It Up'' magazine as well as Australia's Tattoos DownUnder. Martin started his own record label "HELLMAN RECORDS" to promote New Zealand music. The Axe Attack
The Rock is a New Zealand mainstream rock music radio station. The station targets 25–44 with a male skew, but has a significant female fan base. It plays rock music and showcases up-and-coming New Zealand bands. The Rock has unpredictable features and countdowns, most notably The Rock 2000 (formerly The Rock 1500, 1000 & 500), an annual music countdown based entirely on songs voted for by their rock listeners. Some of its broadcasts have been controversial, and the Broadcasting Standards Authority has upheld many complaints against it. Rob Halford
Robert John Arthur Halford (born 25 August 1951) is an English heavy metal singer. He is best known as the lead vocalist of Judas Priest, which was formed in 1969 and has received accolades such as the 2010 Grammy Award for Best Metal Performance. The bass guitar (), also known as the electric bass guitar, electric bass, or simply the bass, is the lowest-pitched member of the guitar family. It is similar in appearance and construction to an Electric guitar, electric but with a longer neck (music), neck and scale length (string instruments), scale length. Devilskin is a four-piece alternative metal band from Hamilton, New Zealand, formed in June 2010. The band consists of lead vocalist Jennie Skulander, guitarist Tony "Nail" Vincent, bassist Paul Martin and drummer Nic Martin. Devilskin's debut album, '' We Rise'' was released on 11 July 2014 and peaked at #1 on the Official New Zealand Music Chart, and spent 47 weeks in the chart. It was certified Platinum by Recorded Music NZ in March 2015. The band's sophomore album, ''Be Like the River'', was released on 11 November 2016 and also peaked at #1. Alternative Metal
Alternative metal (also known as alt-metal) is a genre of heavy metal music that combines heavy metal with influences from alternative rock and other genres not normally associated with metal. Alternative metal bands are often characterized by heavily Downtuned guitar, downtuned, mid-paced guitar riffs, a mixture of accessible melodic vocals and Screaming (music), harsh vocals and sometimes sounds that are unconventional within other heavy metal styles. Waikato
The Waikato () is a region of the upper North Island of New Zealand. It covers the Waikato District, Waipā District, Matamata-Piako District, South Waikato District and Hamilton City, as well as Hauraki, Coromandel Peninsula, the northern King Country, much of the Taupō District, and parts of the Rotorua Lakes District. The music of New Zealand has been influenced by a number of traditions, including Māori music, the music introduced by European settlers during the nineteenth century, and a variety of styles imported during the twentieth century, including blues, jazz, country, rock and roll, reggae, and hip hop, with many of these genres given a unique New Zealand interpretation.
