Path Of Democracy
Path of Democracy ( zh, t=民主思路) is a political group and think tank established in 2015 in Hong Kong. It is led by former Civic Party legislator Ronny Tong, who joined the Executive Council on 1 July 2017. Although officially unaligned with either the pro-Beijing camp or the pro-democracy camp, the group has been supportive of the policies and legislation put forward by the former, and was considered by the media to be pro-Beijing by 2021. Background Path of Democracy was founded by Ronny Tong Ka-wah, a barrister, the founding member of the pro-democracy Civic Party, and member of Legislative Council, who was disillusioned with pan-democrats' uncompromising approach toward Beijing on democratic reform. Ronny Tong
Ronny Tong Ka-wah (; born 28 August 1950) is a senior counsel and politician in Hong Kong. He is a current non-official member of the Executive Council of Hong Kong. He co-founded the Civic Party and was a member of the Legislative Council of Hong Kong, representing the New Territories East constituency from 2004 until he quit the party and resigned from the legislature on 22 June 2015, following the historic vote on Hong Kong electoral reform a few days earlier, having switched his political alignment from pro-democracy to pro-Beijing Hong Kong political group Path of Democracy, of which he is currently the convener. One Country, Two Systems
"One country, two systems" is a constitutional principle of the People's Republic of China (PRC) describing the governance of the special administrative regions of Hong Kong and Macau. Deng Xiaoping developed the one country, two systems concept. This constitutional principle was formulated in the early 1980s during negotiations over Hong Kong between China and the United Kingdom. It provided that there would be only one China, but that each region would retain its own economic and administrative system. Under the principle, each of the two regions could continue to have its own governmental system, legal, economic and financial affairs, including trade relations with foreign countries, all of which are independent from those of the mainland. 2021 Hong Kong Legislative Election
The 2021 Hong Kong Legislative Council election was a general election held on 19 December 2021 for the 7th Legislative Council of Hong Kong. Under the drastic 2021 Hong Kong electoral changes, Beijing-imposed electoral overhaul, the composition of the council was altered to reduce and limit popular representation along with ensuring a pro-Beijing majority. The total number of seats was increased from 70 to 90 seats, with the directly elected geographical constituency, geographical constituencies (GCs) reduced from 35 to 20 seats, the trade-based indirectly elected functional constituency (Hong Kong), functional constituencies (FCs) staying at 30, and the Election Committee (constituency), additional 40 seats being elected by the 1,500-member Election Committee (Hong Kong), Election Committee. 2016 Hong Kong Legislative Election
The 2016 Hong Kong Legislative Council election was held on 4 September 2016 for the 6th Legislative Council of Hong Kong (LegCo). A total of 70 members, 35 from geographical constituency, geographical constituencies (GCs) and 35 from functional constituency (Hong Kong), functional constituencies (FCs), were returned. Paul Zimmerman (politician)
Paulus Johannes Zimmerman (born 8 November 1958), better known as Paul Zimmerman, is a Dutch-born Hong Kong environmentalist, politician and businessman. He is a former member of the Southern District Council for Pokfulam and CEO of Designing Hong Kong, a group that advocates better urban design. Early life and business career Zimmerman was born in Rotterdam, Netherlands in 1958, and grew up in the town of Woerden. He set up a student union in high school and joined the editorial board of an underground newspaper. When he was 17, in response to the dismissal of several popular teachers, Zimmerman took part in a demonstration in which protesters barricaded the building. Hong Kong Democratic Foundation
The Hong Kong Democratic Foundation (; HKDF) is a Hong Kong public policy think tank established initially as a political party on 27 October 1989. The Foundation was founded in the run up to the 1991 Hong Kong legislative election, first Legislative Council direct elections of 1991 by a group of business people and professionals who endorsed democratic ideals led by Jimmy McGregor and Dr Leong Che-hung. Allan Zeman (; born 18 July 1949) is a Hong Kong business magnate. Background and personal life Allan Zeman was born into a Jewish family in Regensburg, West Germany, and was raised in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, where his mother worked in a hospital. When Zeman was seven years old, his father died. He started working at the age of ten. He dropped out of college, and by the age of nineteen, while working for a lingerie company, he had earned his first US$1 million. He made his first fortune by importing clothes from Hong Kong. Shih Wing-ching
Shih Wing-ching ( zh, c=施永青, p=Shī Yǒngqīng, cy=Shih1 Wing5 Ching1; born 17 March 1949 in Shanghai) is a Hong Kong businessman. His family are from Ningbo in Zhejiang province but he came to Hong Kong at an early age. In 1978 he established Centaline Property Agency Limited, which is now one of the largest property agencies in both Hong Kong and China. Shih is chairman of the board of Governors of Hong Kong Sinfonietta, a Council Member of Oxfam Hong Kong, and a Member of the Housing Authority, as well as the Commercial Properties Committee and the Subsidized Housing Committee of the Authority. Joseph Wong Wing-ping
Joseph Wong Wing-ping GBS, JP (Cantonese : 王永平; born 25 July 1948) was the Secretary for Education Department, Secretary for Commerce, Industry and Technology and the Secretary for the Civil Service in Hong Kong. Wong completed his secondary school education at Wah Yan College, Hong Kong, an eminent all-male Roman Catholic Jesuit school in Hong Kong. He graduated from the University of Hong Kong in 1969. He also attended a one-year postgraduate course at the University of Oxford in 1974 and an eight-week Executive Program at Stanford University in 1989. Wong is a career civil servant and was previously Hong Kong's permanent representative to the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT) and the World Trade Organization (WTO).
