The Parliament of The Bahamas is the bicameral national parliament of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas. The parliament is formally made up of the sovereign (represented by the governor-general), an appointed Senate, and an elected House of Assembly. It currently sits at the Bahamian Parliament Building in Nassau, the national capital. The structure, functions, and procedures of the parliament are based on the Westminster system. History Originally inhabited by the Lucayan people, a branch of the Arawakan-speaking Taino people, the Bahamas were the site of Columbus's first landfall in the New World in 1492. 2021 Bahamian General Election
General elections were held in the Bahamas on 16 September 2021 to elect all 38 members of the House of Assembly. Around two hours after the polls closed, and results started to trickle in, Prime Minister Hubert Minnis conceded defeat, after results showed his party Free National Movement losing several seats they previously held. Since 1997, every election has resulted in a change of government. On 17 September Philip Davis of the Progressive Liberal Party was sworn in as prime minister.
