Pacific Highway is a Highways in Australia, national highway and major transport route of along the east coast of Australia from Sydney to Brisbane. It is an integral part of Highway 1 (Australia), Highway 1 which circumnavigates the Australian continent. At its inception, the highway was a single carriageway between Sydney and Brisbane. Pacific Highway is the name of several north–south highways in the Pacific Coast region of the Western United States, either by legislation officially designating it as such or by common usage. Description Good roads advocate and road-building pioneer Sam Hill was perhaps the main motivating force behind building the original Pacific Highway as a "national auto trail"; from Blaine, Washington, on the Canada–United States border, where he would build his Peace Arch, through Oregon to the Siskiyou Mountains of northwestern California. The road was built in the early 20th century—long before the United States Numbered Highway System was established. In 1926, its of pavement made it the longest continuous stretch of paved road in the world at the time. Highway 15 (BC 15), known locally as the Pacific Highway, is a north–south highway primarily located in the City of Surrey, British Columbia. The southern terminus is with Interstate 5 (I-5) near Blaine, Washington, as State Route 543 (SR 543). SR 543 is a connector between I-5 and the Canada–US border, linking with BC 15. Over 3,000 trucks per day pass through the border crossing along SR 543 and BC 15, because the Peace Arch border crossing does not allow commercial trucks. Route description SR 543 is a short highway entirely within the city of Blaine, Washington, that connects I-5 with the Canada–United States border.
