Pedro René Peralta Soto (born July 9, 1966), better known as Chichi Peralta, is a Dominican musician, songwriter, composer and producer. His music is rich in fusion of Latin rhythms with elements of world music. He has combined the son music with jazz, merengue and pop, African rhythms, hip hop, rap, bachata, guaguancó, Brazilian rhythms, plena, salsa, vallenato, cumbia, symphonic textures, Arabic rhythms and exotic instruments from India and Japan, among others. Biography Chichi Peralta was born on July 9, 1966, in Santo Domingo, capital of the Dominican Republic. His musical career began at the age of four, when he built his first drum. The first album Peralta released was '' Trópico Adentro'', but it was released independently and only in the Dominican Republic. Merengue is a type of music and Merengue (dance), dance originating in present-day Dominican Republic which has become a very popular genre throughout Latin America, and also in several major cities in the United States with Latino communities. Merengue was inscribed on November 30, 2016, in the representative list of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity of UNESCO. Merengue was developed in the middle of the 1800s, originally played with European stringed instruments (bandurria and guitar). Years later, the stringed instruments were replaced by the accordion, thus conforming, together with the güira and the Tambora (Dominican drum), tambora, the instrumental structure of the typical merengue ensemble. This set, with its three instruments, represents the synthesis of the three cultures that made up the idiosyncrasy of Dominican culture. It was founded in 1922 in Torreón, Coahuila by Antonio de Juambelz y Bracho under the direction of Joaquin Moreno.
