Oregon Veterans Medal Of Honor Memorial
The Oregon Veterans Medal of Honor Memorial, or Oregon's Medal of Honor Memorial, is an outdoor memorial commemorating all veterans, and especially Medal of Honor recipients, installed outside the Oregon State Capitol in Salem, Oregon, United States. Description The memorial features seven granite pillars on each side of the Oregon State Capitol. East of the building, the pillars surround a flagpole with the American flag, and on the opposite side, the pillars encompass a flagpole with the state flag. Thirteen pillars have a bronze plaque depicting one of thirteen Medal of Honor recipients from Oregon; the fourteenth one lists the names of medal recipients with a connection to the state, but who did not enlist in Oregon. Salem ( ) is the capital of the U.S. state of Oregon, and the county seat of Marion County. It is located in the center of the Willamette Valley alongside the Willamette River, which runs north through the city. Oregon State Capitol Foundation
The birth of the Oregon State Capitol Foundation dates back to 1991 with the Capitol Preservation Advisory Committee (CPAC). Committee members saw a need to preserve the Capitol beyond budgeted maintenance. Initially, formation of a "Friends of the Capitol" group was contemplated and a subcommittee established goals and objectives. They decided to formalize their group and, with the Legislature's support, formed the Oregon State Capitol Foundation. Oregon World War II Memorial
The Oregon World War II Memorial to Oregon veterans of World War II, is located the grounds of the Oregon State Capitol, in Salem, Oregon, United States. Nine memorial plaques recount the stories of action of Oregon Army, Marines, Navy, Air Corps, National Guard, and civilians. A memorial wall records the names of those killed in action. A granite pavement featuring an inscribed world map, with stars indicating the theaters of war where Oregon soldiers, sailors, marines and airmen served, surrounding an obelisk which is blank and unadorned. Kentucky Medal Of Honor Memorial
The Kentucky Medal of Honor Memorial is located at the corner of Fifth and Jefferson Streets in downtown Louisville, Kentucky, on the grounds of the old Jefferson County Courthouse. The Memorial honors all recipients of the Medal of Honor from the Commonwealth of Kentucky. The Memorial was sculpted by Doyle Glass and dedicated on Veterans Day 2001. The Memorial features a life-size bronze statue of Medal of Honor recipient John C. Squires as he would appear on the night he earned the Medal of Honor. Medal Of Honor Memorial (Indianapolis)
The Medal of Honor Memorial is a monument located in White River State Park in Indianapolis, Indiana, United States. It is dedicated in honor of all recipients of the Medal of Honor, the United States military's highest award for valor. The memorial was unveiled May 28, 1999, during Memorial Day weekend. The memorial is part of the Indiana War Memorials Commission. Design The Memorial is located on the north bank of the Indiana Central Canal, adjacent to Military Park, and consists of 27 glass panels set in concrete bases. Indiana Limestone in shades of buff, gray, and pink are also a part of the monument. The panels are arranged into 15 walls, each representing an armed conflict in which a Medal of Honor was awarded. The names of the recipients are etched into the glass. At the time of dedication, there were 3,436 Medal of Honor recipients etched into the monument. Texas Medal Of Honor Memorial
The Texas Medal of Honor Memorial is a statue commemorating recipients of the Medal of Honor from the state of Texas. Sculpted by Doyle Glass and Scott Boyer, it was dedicated on Memorial Day of 2008 in Midland, Texas at the Commemorative Air Force International Headquarters. In July 2018 the Memorial was assigned to the Ground Forces Detachment of the Commemorative Air Force and moved to Gainesville, Texas. Since May of 2021 it is currently on display at the International Artillery Museum in Saint Jo, Texas and open to the public. The Memorial depicts Medal of Honor recipient George H. O'Brien, Jr. as he would appear on the day he earned the Medal of Honor for his service during the Korean War.
