Ohio's 2nd Senatorial District
Ohio's 2nd senatorial district has historically represented areas located in northwestern Ohio. It now stretches along the Great Lakes. A multi-county district, it currently comprises the counties of Erie, Ottawa and Wood, as well as, portions of the counties of Fulton and Lucas. It encompasses Ohio House of Representatives districts 3, 47 and 89. It has a Cook PVI of R+1. The seat has been held by Theresa Gavarone following her appointment in February 2019. List Of Presidents Of The Ohio Senate
The president of the Ohio State Senate is the leader of the Ohio State Senate. Under Ohio's first constitution, in effect from 1803 to 1851, the presiding officer of the senate was called the speaker. Starting in 1851, when the second constitution took effect, a new office of lieutenant governor was created. The new position of lieutenant governor carried with it the office of president of the senate, and was nominally the presiding officer of the senate. During this time, the actual legislative leader of the senate majority was the president pro tempore of the Ohio Senate. In the 1970s, another change was made, which made the office of lieutenant governor elected jointly with the governor. At this time, the duty of presiding over the senate was removed from the lieutenant governor's portfolio and the majority party of the senate began electing its own president starting in 1979. Mark Wagoner
Mark D. Wagoner, Jr. (born September 18, 1971) is an American politician and former Republican member of the Ohio Senate and Ohio House of Representatives. Career Wagoner is a lifetime resident of Ottawa Hills and graduated from Ottawa Hills High School. Wagoner obtained degrees from both Georgetown University and the Ohio State University before practicing law in the Toledo area. He is a partner as Shumaker, Loop and Kendrick L.L.P. Randy Gardner (Ohio Politician)
Randall L. Gardner (born 1958) is an American politician, he formerly served as a Republican member of the Ohio Senate, serving the 2nd District from 2013–2018. He formerly held the same district from 2001 to 2008, and was a member of the Ohio House of Representatives from 1985 to 2000, and from 2008 to 2012. In January 2019 Governor Mike Dewine appointed Gardner as the Chancellor of the Ohio Department of Higher Education. Robert Edward Latta (born April 18, 1956) is an American politician who is the United States representative for , serving since 2007. He is a member of the Republican Party. The district includes many of Toledo's suburbs, as well as Findlay, Bowling Green, Napoleon, Sylvania, Defiance and Van Wert. It also includes a sliver of Toledo itself. Betty Montgomery
Betty Montgomery (born April 3, 1948) is an American politician from the state of Ohio. A Republican, she formerly served as Ohio State Auditor and is the first woman Ohio Attorney General.
