Malathion
Malathion is an organophosphate insecticide which acts as an acetylcholinesterase inhibitor. In the USSR, it was known as carbophos, in New Zealand and Australia as maldison and in South Africa as mercaptothion. The compound's name is presumably related to malic acid (2-hydroxybutanedioic acid) owning to the 2-substituted diethyl malate substructure. Pesticide use Malathion is a pesticide that is widely used in agriculture, residential landscaping, public recreation areas, and in public health pest control programs such as mosquito eradication. In the US, it is the most commonly used organophosphate insecticide. A malathion mixture with corn syrup was used in the 1980s in Australia and California to combat the Mediterranean fruit fly. In Canada and the US starting in the early 2000s, malathion was sprayed in many cities to combat west Nile virus. Ovide Lamontagne
Ovide Marc Lamontagne (born 1957) is an American businessman who serves as a shareholder at Bernstein Shur law firm in Manchester, New Hampshire. Lamontagne is a lawyer and a Republican former political candidate who was his party's nominee for Governor of New Hampshire in 1996 and 2012. He also unsuccessfully sought the Republican nomination for the US Senate in 2010. Lamontagne, who is of French-Canadian descent, was born and raised in Manchester. He graduated from Manchester's Trinity High School in 1975 before he took his undergraduate degree at the Catholic University of America in 1979. He taught social studies at a high school level before attending the Wyoming College of Law, graduating with his Juris Doctor degree in 1985. He clerked for Judge James E. Joseph-Ovide Turgeon (1797 – November 9, 1856) was a Quebec official and political figure. Early life and education He was born at Terrebonne in 1797, a cousin of Louis Turgeon, and studied at the Petit Séminaire de Montréal. Career He travelled in the United States before settling again at Terrebonne. He was named commissioner in charge of extending the Effingham road to Killkenny in 1830. Turgeon was elected to the Legislative Assembly of Lower Canada for Effingham in 1824 as a member of the parti canadien and was reelected in 1827. In 1830, he was elected again, this time in Terrebonne. Turgeon voted in support of the Ninety-Two Resolutions. He was appointed to the Legislative Council of the Province of Canada in 1848 and died at Terrebonne while still in office in 1856. François-Xavier-Ovide Méthot
François-Xavier-Ovide Méthot (September 19, 1843 – October 19, 1908) was a Quebec farmer and political figure. He represented Nicolet in the Legislative Assembly of Quebec from 1871 to 1876 and in the House of Commons of Canada as an Independent Conservative member from 1877 to 1884. He was born in Quebec City, Canada East in 1843, the son of François-Xavier Méthot, and studied at the Séminaire de Québec. He married his cousin Clara, the daughter of Antoine-Prosper Méthot, in 1864. Méthot was a farmer at Saint-Pierre-les-Becquets and served as mayor there from 1868 to 1872. In 1871, he was elected to the legislative assembly of the province in Nicolet as a Conservative; he was reelected in 1875 but his election was declared invalid by the Quebec Superior Court in June 1876. Charles-Ovide Perrault
Charles-Ovide Perrault (September 24, 1809 – November 24, 1837) was a lawyer and political figure in Lower Canada. He represented Vaudreuil in the Legislative Assembly of Lower Canada from 1834 to 1837. He was born in Montreal, the son of Julien Perrault and Euphrosine Lamontagne, and was educated at the Petit Séminaire de Montréal. Perrault went on to study law with Denis-Benjamin Viger, was admitted to the Lower Canada bar in 1832 and practised law in Montreal. In 1837, he married Marie-Mathilde Roy. Perrault spoke at a number of assemblies of the Patriotes and was fatally wounded at the Battle of Saint-Denis while serving with Wolfred Nelson. He died in office at the age of 28. Ovide de Montigny was a French-Canadian fur trapper active in the Pacific Northwest from 1811 to 1822. Pacific Fur Company de Montigny was hired by Alexander MacKay at Montreal in July 1810. McKay and Wilson Price Hunt were in the city recruiting men experienced in the fur trade for the Pacific Fur Company (PFC). This recently established fur trading venture was funded largely by German-American merchant John Jacob Astor. The PFC had a notably diverse workforce. The majority were British subjects of several different cultural backgrounds. The other company partners were either Scottish or American. French-Canadians typically served as voyageurs and trappers, with a number of Iroquois working in these vital roles as well. Ovide William Mercredi (born January 30, 1946) is a Canadian politician. He is Cree and a former National Chief of the Assembly of First Nations. He is also the former president of the Manitoba New Democratic Party. Early life and career A Cree, Ovide Mercredi was born in the Grand Rapids reserve of the Misipawistik Cree Nation, in central Manitoba. But he lived outside the reserve because his mother was stripped of her Indian status when she married a Métis (a person of mixed indigenous and European descent). Ovide Le Blanc
Ovide Le Blanc (1801–1870) was a notary and political figure in Quebec. He represented Beauharnois in the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Canada from 1851 to 1854. He was born in Champlain, Quebec, the son of Étienne Le Blanc and Josette Richerville, and grew up in Trois-Rivières. Le Blanc apprenticed as a notary at Quebec City and received his commission to practice in 1822. He practised in Trois-Rivières, Beauharnois, Montreal and Portage-du-Fort. Ovide Laflamme (10 December 1925 – 29 June 1993) was a Liberal party member of the House of Commons of Canada. He was born in Saint-Damien, Quebec and became a judge and lawyer by career. He was first elected at the Bellechasse riding in a 26 September 1955 by-election, then re-elected in the 1957 federal election. After serving his term in the 23rd Canadian Parliament, Laflamme was defeated at Bellechasse in the 1958 by Noël Dorion of the Progressive Conservative party and in the 1962 election by Bernard Dumont of the Social Credit party.
