Ottawa Gee-Gees
The Ottawa Gee-Gees () are the athletic teams that represent the University of Ottawa in Ottawa, Ontario. The Gee-Gees won the national football championship, the Vanier Cup, in 1975 and 2000, while also appearing in the game in the 1970, 1980, and 1997 seasons. The Gee-Gees women's rugby team won the Molinex Trophy, national championship in 2017, and the women's soccer team were U Sports women's soccer championship, national champions in 1996 and 2018. The men's cross country team won three national titles, in 1986, 1987, and 1990. The men's rugby team will host the 2024 Canadian University Men's Rugby Championship and are granted automatic entry as hosts. They are undefeated at home in 2023 and 2024, and are consistently ranked as a top 10 team in the country. Ottawa Gee-Gees Women's Ice Hockey
The Ottawa Gee-Gees represent the University of Ottawa in Canadian Interuniversity Sport women's ice hockey. Home games are contested at the uOttawa Minto Sports Complex, and the Gee-Gees are members of the Quebec Student Sports Federation. Exhibition NCAA PWHL History Shelley Coolidge became head coach of the program in the spring of 2003. During the 2003–04 campaign, she guided the Gee-Gees to the CIS national championship game where they were defeated by the Alberta Pandas. In 2006–07 she guided the Gee-Gees to a 12–6–0 record, the best in program history. On January 16, 2008, the Gee Gees hosted a game at Scotiabank Place in Ottawa, as the Gee-Gees played the Carleton Ravens. The Saskatchewan Huskies are the athletics teams representing the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. The university began their athletics program in 1907 and has competed with others since 1911. They currently compete in elite inter-university competition administered by U Sports and its members, both as regions and as individual institutions. The University of Saskatchewan is a member of the Canada West Regional Association, one of four such associations within U Sports. The Huskie Athletics program is administered at the University of Saskatchewan by the college of Kinesiology. The Wilson Cup is the championship and trophy awarded annually to the Ontario University Athletics (OUA) men's basketball champion. The championship is played at the home of the highest remaining playoff seed from either the East or West Division, depending on the year. History The Wilson Cup was first awarded for the 1908–09 season by Harold Wilson of Toronto. Johnny Berhanemeskel (born October 30, 1992) is a Canadian professional basketball player for BCM Gravelines-Dunkerque of the LNB Pro A. College career He played college basketball at the University of Ottawa, earning CIS Outstanding Player, First Team All-Canadian and OUA Player of the Year honors in his fifth year with the Ottawa Gee-Gees. 2014 CIS Men's Basketball Championship
The 2014 CIS Men's Final 8 Basketball Tournament was held March 7–9, 2014 in Ottawa, Ontario. Host and defending champion Carleton Ravens won the final against the Ottawa Gee-Gees. It was the second of two consecutive CIS Championships to be held at Canadian Tire Centre after the tournament was held in Halifax in 2011 and 2012. This was the fifth time Carleton University has hosted the tournament with the Carleton Ravens guaranteed a spot in the tournament as the host team. Participating teams Defending champion Carleton Ravens won their division OUA East undefeated (22-0) but lost the Conference final one week before the tournament to the Ottawa Gee-Gees. The Gee-Gees came second in the OUA East Division, losing only both regular season games to the Ravens (20-2), before claiming victory of the Wilson Cup in Toronto. The Lakehead Thunderwolves are the U Sports varsity athletic teams that represent Lakehead University in Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada. The Carleton Ravens are the athletic teams that represent Carleton University in Ottawa, Ontario. The most notable sports team for Carleton is the men's basketball team. In men's basketball, the Ravens have won 16 of the last 19 national men's championships, which is more than any top division college in Canada or the United States.
