Orna Porat Children's Theater
The Orna Porat Children's Theater is a children's repertory theater established in 1970 by Israel Prize winner and actress Orna Porat and Yigal Alon, the Minister of Education at the time. The theater is the oldest of its kind in Israel. The theater is based at the Yaron Yerushalmi hall of the Suzanne Dellal Center for Dance and Theater in Tel Aviv. The theater is a public non-profit organization, and all of its income is used to sustain its activities and advance its various goals. The theater is supported by the Ministry of Education and the Tel Aviv-Yafo Municipality. Its central goal is to expose young audiences to theater, presenting them with an artistic experience, as well as national and universal values through an encounter with art. Every year the theater's repertoire of 20 plays is conducted on stage in front of 400,000 people at festivals, events, and theaters all over Israel and overseas. Orna Porat ( he, אורנה פורת; June 6, 1924 – August 6, 2015) was a German-born Israeli theater actress. Life and career She was born Irene Klein in Cologne, Germany, in 1924. Her father, Willi, was Catholic, and her mother, Elise, Protestant, but she chose atheism and socialism in her youth. In 1934 her family moved to Porz, where she attended high school. During these years, she was a member of the Hitler Youth, although her family opposed this affiliation. She attended drama school and began her stage career at a repertory theater in Schleswig. She met her husband, Joseph Proter, in Schleswig. He was an officer from the British Mandate of Palestine in the Jewish Brigade of the British Army. Yigal Alon
Yigal Allon ( he, יגאל אלון; 10 October 1918 – 29 February 1980) was an Israeli politician, commander of the Palmach, and general in the IDF. He served as one of the leaders of Ahdut HaAvoda party and the Israeli Labor party, and briefly as acting Prime Minister of Israel in 1969 - the first native born prime minister. He was a Knesset member and government minister from the third Knesset to the ninth inclusive. Allon died unexpectedly in 1980 after he suffered a cardiac arrest. Allon, born a child of pioneer settlers in the Lower Galilee, became a member of the Labor Movement and a resident of Kibbutz Ginosar in his teen years. Purim (; , ; see Name below) is a Jewish holiday which commemorates the saving of the Jewish people from Haman, an official of the Achaemenid Empire who was planning to have all of Persia's Jewish subjects killed, as recounted in the Book of Esther (usually dated to the 5th century BCE). The Arab-Hebrew Theater
The Arab-Hebrew Theater or Al Saraya Theater is a multilingual theater located in the Old Saraya House in the Old City of Jaffa. It serves as a stage for two theater companies working independently and together in two languages: Hebrew and Arabic. The Hebrew company is "Teatron Mekomi (Local Theater)", which was established in 1990 by Yigal Ezrati and Gabi Eldor, and the Arab company is "Al-Saraya", which was established in 1998. Habima Theatre
The Habima Theatre ( he, תיאטרון הבימה ''Te'atron HaBima'', lit. "The Stage Theatre") is the national theatre of Israel and one of the first Hebrew language theatres.
