Orléans (federal Electoral District)
Orléans (formerly Ottawa—Orléans, Gloucester—Carleton and Carleton—Gloucester) is a federal electoral district in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, that has been represented in the House of Commons of Canada since 1988. The riding was created as "Carleton—Gloucester" in 1987. Its name was changed to "Gloucester—Carleton" in 1996, but then changed back to "Carleton–Gloucester" in 1997. It was changed again in 2000 to "Ottawa—Orléans" and to just "Orléans" in 2013. Despite having an English-speaking majority, Orléans is among the most francophone of the Ontario federal ridings, and a major centre of the Franco-Ontarian community. According to the 2001 Statistics Canada report, 35% of the riding population speaks French as their mother tongue. Canadian Taxpayers Federation
The Canadian Taxpayers Federation (CTF; ) is a federally incorporated, non-profit organization in Canada. It describes itself as a taxpayers advocacy group, and the organization advocates lower taxes, less waste, and an increase in government accountability. It was founded in Saskatchewan in 1990 through a merger of the Association of Saskatchewan Taxpayers and the Resolution One Association of Alberta. The federation uses a combination of e-mail, media interviews, press conferences, speeches, presentations, stunts, petitions and publications in its advocacy. The CTF publishes ''The Taxpayer'' magazine three times a year, sends regular e-mail 'Action Updates', hosts a website/blog and Facebook page and issues opinion commentaries to media outlets. Highway 417 (Ontario)
King's Highway 417, commonly referred to as Highway 417 and as the Queensway through Ottawa, is a 400-series highway in the Canadian province of Ontario. It connects Ottawa with Montreal via A-40, and is the backbone of the highway system in the National Capital Region. Within Ottawa, it forms part of the Queensway west from Highway 7 to Ottawa Road 174. Highway 417 extends from the Quebec border, near Hawkesbury, to Arnprior, where it continues westward as Highway 17. Aside from the urban section through Ottawa, Highway 417 passes through farmland that dominates much of the fertile Ottawa Valley. Blair Road
Blair Road (Ottawa Road #27) is a road in the eastern part of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. It begins just south of the Sir George-Étienne Cartier Parkway, but does not connect to the parkway, except for a small bike-path connection to the Ottawa River Pathway - one of the city's main bike trails that runs along the Ottawa River. Starting out quite minor, the northernmost part of the road is a two-lane collector road (north of Montreal Road) or minor arterial road (south of Montreal Road), running past residential areas and to the east of the massive National Research Council and Canadian Security Intelligence Service campuses. Ottawa Road 174, formerly Ottawa-Carleton Regional Road 174 and commonly referred to as Highway 174, is a municipal expressway and numbered road in the City of Ottawa which serves the eastern suburbs of Orléans and Cumberland. Green's Creek (Ontario)
Green's Creek is a small tributary of the Ottawa River that flows through the community of Gloucester in eastern Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. Among its tributaries are Borthwick Creek, Black Creek, Mud Creek, and Ramsay Creek, all of which spring in the Mer Bleue bog. Geography The creek was formed approximately 10,000 years ago at the end of the Wisconsin Glaciation and the retreat of the Champlain Sea from the Ottawa Valley. Currently it starts at the confluence of Borthwick and Ramsey Creeks just west of the Walkley Road off-ramp from Highway 417 and flows 13.4 kilometres ( miles) to the Ottawa River. Ottawa River
The Ottawa River (, ) is a river in the Canadian provinces of Ontario and Quebec. It is named after the Algonquin word "to trade", as it was the major trade route of Eastern Canada at the time. Blackburn Hamlet
Blackburn Hamlet is a suburban community in Orléans West-Innes Ward, in the east end of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. Before the 2001 amalgamation of the city of Ottawa, it was in the city of Gloucester. It is surrounded by rural areas and contains several older and newer areas of settlement. According to the Canada 2021 Census, its population was 8,173. The community took its name from Robert Blackburn, former Member of Parliament for Russell.
