Ruthelma Stevens (1903–1984) was an American film actress. Stevens's mother was Mrs. Beatrice Stevens. Stevens's film debut came in ''Life Begins''. She was signed to a long-term contract after acting on the Broadway stage. Broadway plays in which she appeared included ''Speak Easy'' (1927), ''Jarnegan'' (1928), ''Hotel Universe'' (1930), ''Roadside'' (1930), ''Anatol'' (1931), ''Life Begins'' (1932), and ''A Red Rainbow'' (1953). John Qualen (born Johan Mandt Kvalen, December 8, 1899 – September 12, 1987) was a Canadian-American character actor of Norwegian heritage who specialized in Scandinavian roles. Early years Qualen was born in Vancouver, British Columbia, the son of immigrants from Norway; his father was a Lutheran minister Some sources give Oleson as the family's original name, later Oleson Kvalen as Qualen's earlier surnames. Sidney Toler (born Hooper G. Toler Jr., April 28, 1874 – February 12, 1947) was an American actor, playwright, and theatre director. The second non-Asian actor to play the role of Charlie Chan on screen, he is best remembered for his portrayal of the Chinese-American detective in 22 films made between 1938 and 1946.
