Ondřej Smetana (speedway Rider)
Ondřej Smetana (born 2 May 1995) is a Czech motorcycle speedway rider. Career As a 16-year-old he won a bronze medal at the 2011 Speedway Youth World Championship. The following year he reached the final of the 2012 Individual Speedway Junior European Championship and in 2014 won a bronze medal at the Team Junior European Championship. He reached the final of the 2016 Speedway Under-21 World Championship. He won the 2019 edition of the French Individual Speedway Championship. Smetana signed for Newcastle Diamonds for the 2020 season but due to the COVID-19 pandemic he was unable to make his British leagues debut. In 2021, he signed for Poole Pirates Poole Pirates (also known as Poole Speedway) are a motorcycle speedway team based in Poole, England, competing in the SGB Championship. Team Speedway Junior European Championship
The European Under-23 Team Speedway Championship, formerly known as the ''Team Speedway Junior European Championship'' is an annual motorcycle speedway event. Inaugurated as a European Under-19 competition, the competition age limits have twice been amended. Since 2021, the event has been staged as the European Under-23 Team Championship. The inaugural 2008 edition was staged at the Florian Kapała Stadium in Rawicz, Poland, and won by the Sweden national under-19 speedway team, Swedish team. The next two editions were won by the Poland national under-19 speedway team. The event is organised by FIM Europe, formerly known as the Union Européenne de Motocyclisme, European Motorcycle Union (UEM) from 2008 until December 2012. The 2014 Team Speedway Junior European Championship was the seventh Team Speedway Junior European Championship season. It was organised by the Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme and was the third as an under 21 years of age event. Motorcycle speedway, usually referred to simply as speedway, is a motorcycle sport involving four and sometimes up to six riders competing over four clockwise, anti-clockwise laps of an oval circuit. The motorcycles are specialist machines that use only one gear and have no brakes. Racing takes place on a flat oval track usually consisting of soil, dirt, loosely packed shale, or crushed rock (mostly used in Australia and New Zealand). Speedway Youth World Championship
The Speedway Youth World Championship, or Speedway Under-16 World Championship, is an annual speedway event held each year and organized by the International Motorcycling Federation (FIM) since 2010. As of 2022, the title was awarded to the winner of the SGP3 category at the FIM Speedway World Championship. History The series was launched as the Speedway 250cc Youth World Cup. At launch it was limited to 250cc speedway bikes and for competitors 16 years of age or under, which has remained ever since. 2016 Speedway Under-21 World Championship
The 2016 Individual Speedway Junior World Championship was the 40th edition of the FIM World motorcycle speedway Under-21 Championships. It was staged over three rounds, at King's Lynn, Pardubice and Gdańsk. The championship was won by triple Australian Under-21 Champion Max Fricke who become Australia's fifth Under-21 World Champion. Fricke's consistent run over the series in which he finished 3rd in the first two rounds and 2nd in the final round saw him score 46 points. Newcastle Diamonds were a motorcycle speedway team that raced in the British speedway leagues from 1929 to 2022. They were based at Newcastle Stadium on the Fossway, Byker. The Stadium was previously known as Brough Park. History Origins and 1930s The construction of a speedway track at Brough Park began in early 1929, under the supervision of Lindon Travers. Poole Pirates (also known as Poole Speedway) are a motorcycle speedway team based in Poole, England, competing in the SGB Championship.
