On The Buses
''On the Buses'' is a British television British sitcom, sitcom that was broadcast on ITV (TV network), ITV from 1969 to 1973. It was created by Chesney and Wolfe, Ronald Chesney and Ronald Wolfe, who wrote most of the episodes. It spawned three spin-off feature films and a stage version. Despite the writers' previous successes with ''The Rag Trade'' and ''Meet the Wife (TV series), Meet the Wife'' with the BBC, the corporation rejected ''On the Buses'', not seeing much comedy potential in a bus depot as a setting. The comedy partnership turned to Frank Muir, head of entertainment at London Weekend Television (LWT), who loved the idea; the show was accepted, and despite a poor critical reception became a hit with viewers. The Rag Trade
''The Rag Trade'' is a British television sitcom broadcast by the BBC between 1961 and 1963 and by ITV (TV network), ITV between 1977 and 1978. Although a comedy, it shed light on gender, politics and the "class war" on the factory floor. The scripts were written by partners Chesney and Wolfe, who later wrote ''Wild, Wild Women'', ''Meet the Wife (TV series), Meet the Wife'' and ''On the Buses''. ''Wild, Wild Women'' was a period variation of ''The Rag Trade''. Terry Duggan
Terence A. Duggan (15 April 1932 – 1 May 2008) was a British comedian and actor who had a successful career in cabaret and variety, and played numerous character roles on television. Early life Duggan was born in Hoxton, London. From the 1960s through the 1980s, he appeared on such television series as ''Are You Being Served?'', ''The Bill'', '' Bob Martin'', ''Only Fools and Horses'', ''Please Sir!'' and ''Randall and Hopkirk (Deceased)''. He also performed pantomime, frequently teaming with his wife, the actress Anna Karen. He also appeared in different roles with her on six occasions in the ITV sitcom ''On the Buses'', as well as in the spin-off movie ''On the Buses'' (1971). Development Origin of ''On the Buses'' Chesney and Wolfe were looking for a new idea for a sitcom in the late 1960s. They knew that Reg Varney would be the leading actor because of his previous work on ''The Rag Trade'' for the BBC with them.
