On Purge Bébé
''On purge bébé'' (''Baby's Laxative'') is Jean Renoir's first sound film, based upon the play by Georges Feydeau. It is a 1931 comedy about a supposedly unbreakable chamberpot and a constipated baby. It is known for mocking the French bourgeoisie. Renoir made the film in a record three weeks (from script to finished film) in order to get backing for other projects. His next film was '' La Chienne''. Synopsis Mr. Follavoine seeks to sell unbreakable chamberpots to the French army. In an attempt to close the deal, he invites Chouilloux, an influential official of the Ministry of hosts, for dinner to discuss putting his chamberpots on the market. But on that same day, Follavoine's son is constipated and Mrs. Follavoine tries to force him to take his laxative, but he flat out refuses to take it. From that point on, nothing goes as planned. Jean Renoir
Jean Renoir (; 15 September 1894 – 12 February 1979) was a French film director, screenwriter, actor, producer and author. His '' La Grande Illusion'' (1937) and '' The Rules of the Game'' (1939) are often cited by critics as among the greatest films ever made. In 2002, he was ranked fourth on the BFI's '' Sight & Sound'' poll of the greatest directors. Among numerous honours accrued during his lifetime, he received a Lifetime Achievement Academy Award in 1975. Renoir was the son of the painter Pierre-Auguste Renoir and the uncle of the cinematographer Claude Renoir. With Claude, he made '' The River'' (1951), the first color film shot in India. A lifelong lover of theater, Renoir turned to the stage for '' The Golden Coach'' (1952) and '' French Cancan'' (1955). He was one of the first filmmakers to be known as an '' auteur''; the critic Penelope Gilliatt said a Renoir shot could be identified "in a thousand miles of film." Pierre Braunberger (29 July 1905, Paris – 16 November 1990, Aubervilliers) was a French producer, executive producer, and actor. Biography Born into a family of physicians, Braunberger at the age of seven was already determined not have the same life as his father, and not to take up medicine as a career. He saw a screening of ''Fantômas'' at the Gaumont Théâtre, the first cinema to open in Paris, and decided to work in the cinema.
