Filbyterna were a Swedish motorcycle speedway team based at the old Linköping Motorstadion in Ryd (1948–1977) and the Linköping Motorstadion (1978–2010), near Linköping, Sweden. They were twice champions of Sweden. History 1948 to 1958 The team were one of the seven inaugural members of the Swedish speedway league, which started during the 1948 Swedish speedway season. Based in Linköping their official name was Linköping MK but they took the nickname Filbyterna. They won the first league (known as the Dirt Track League) in 1948 and became the first Swedish Speedway Team Championship winners. In 1950 they won their second team championship. Vikingarna () are a Swedish motorcycle speedway team based at the Örebro Motorstadion, 9 km west of Örebro, near Örebro Airport in Sweden. Season summary History 1950 to 1954 The beginning of competitive league speedway in Örebro can be traced back to the 1950 Swedish speedway season. A club called Vikingarna racing at the Örebro Motorstadion in Adolfsberg finished last out of four teams in the second division. However, the following season in 1951, was much improved to the degree that the team actually won the six team division. The team competed in the highest tier for the first time during the 1952 Swedish speedway season (called division 1 at the time) but struggled in the division and were eventually relegated. A young Göte Nordin rode for the club from 1952 to 1954 and he helped them win division 2 again in 1953. Hammarby IF Speedway was a Swedish motorcycle speedway team based in Stockholm, Sweden. The club has not been competing in the domestic leagues since 2016, after their home ground Gubbängens IP was demolished. Their biggest success was winning the bronze medal in Elitserien in 2007. Season summary History SMK Stockholm and Monarkerna SMK Stockholm were one of the seven inaugural members of the Swedish speedway league, which started during the 1948 Swedish speedway season. Kaparna were a Swedish motorcycle speedway team that competed in the Swedish speedway leagues from 1949 to 2007. The team were last based at the Arendal Speedway Track, in Arendal, west of Gothenburg on the island of at Hisingen in Sweden. They were four times Swedish Speedway Team Championship, league champions of Sweden. Before World War II it held meetings consisting of individual competition. Speedway World Championship
The World Championship of Speedway is an international competition between the highest-ranked motorcycle speedway riders of the world, run under the auspices of the Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM). The first official championships were held in 1936. Today, the championship is organised as a series of Speedway Grand Prix events, where points are awarded according to performance in the event and tallied up at the end of each season. However, up to 1994, it was usually run as a single-night event after qualifying rounds during the season, leading up to a final consisting of 20 heats, where points were awarded according to riders' heat placings and then tallied up at the end. Allsvenskan (literally, "The National League") is the second tier in the league system of Speedway in Sweden and currently comprises six motorcycle speedway teams. Until the introduction of the Elitserien (speedway), Elitserien in 1982 the Allsvenskan was the highest level of Swedish Speedway. Motorcycle Speedway
Motorcycle speedway, usually referred to simply as speedway, is a motorcycle sport involving four and sometimes up to six riders competing over four clockwise, anti-clockwise laps of an oval circuit. The motorcycles are specialist machines that use only one gear and have no brakes. Racing takes place on a flat oval track usually consisting of soil, dirt, loosely packed shale, or crushed rock (mostly used in Australia and New Zealand). Competitors use this surface to slide their machines sideways, powersliding or broadsiding into the bends. On the straight sections of the track, the motorcycles reach speeds of up to .
