Oklahoma Women's Hall Of Fame
Oklahoma Women's Hall of Fame was established in 1982 by Oklahoma Governor George Nigh "to honor Oklahoma women who are pioneers in their field or in a project that benefits Oklahoma; who have made a significant contribution to the State of Oklahoma; who serve or have served as role models to other Oklahoma women; who may be "unsung heroes," but have made a difference in the lives of Oklahomans or Americans because of their actions; who have championed other women, women's issues, or served as public policy advocates for the issues important to women; and who exemplify the Oklahoma spirit." The Oklahoma Women's Hall of Fame is one of several events sponsored by the Oklahoma Commission on the Status of Women to support its mission, "To improve the quality of life for women, children and families in Oklahoma." Laura Boyd (born June 5, 1949) is an American politician from Oklahoma. A member of the Democratic Party (United States), Democratic Party, Boyd was elected in 1992 to the Oklahoma House of Representatives to represent District 44, which included Cleveland County, Oklahoma, Cleveland County. Jari Askins (born April 27, 1953) is an American judge, lawyer, and Democratic politician from the state of Oklahoma. She was the 15th lieutenant governor of Oklahoma, being the second woman, the first female Democrat, and the most recent Democrat to hold that position. Askins won the Oklahoma Democratic Party's 2010 gubernatorial nomination by defeating Attorney General Drew Edmondson. Carolyn Thompson is an American former Texas Tech basketball player, playing from 1980 to 1984. She was born in Hobbs, New Mexico. With a career total of 2,655 points, Thompson is the all-time leading scorer for the Texas Tech Lady Raiders and is ranked second in points per game with 21.9 (as of the end of the 2007 season). She set a total of eighteen records at Tech, including field goals made (1,013), field goal attempts (1,944), and rebounds (1,247). Maxine Horner
Maxine Edwyna Cissel Horner (January 17, 1933 – February 7, 2021) was one of the first African American women to serve in the Oklahoma Senate, serving from 1986 to 2004, along with Vicki Miles-LaGrange. Horner held the position of Democratic Caucus Chair, as well as Chair of Business and Labor and Government Operations, and Vice-Chair of Adult Literacy. Sherri Kay Coale (; Born on January 19, 1965) is a retired college basketball coach. She was the head coach of the Oklahoma Sooners women's basketball, University of Oklahoma Sooners women's basketball team for 25 years, from 1996 to 2021.
