The Okeechobee Waterway or Okeechobee Canal is a relatively shallow artificial waterway in the United States, stretching across Florida from Fort Myers on the west coast to Stuart on Florida's east coast. The waterway can support tows such as barges or private vessels up to wide x long which draw less than , as parts of the system, especially the locks may have low water depths of just ten feet. The system of channels runs through Lake Okeechobee and consists of the Caloosahatchee River to the west of the lake and the St. Lucie Canal east of the lake. Okeechobee station is a Metrorail (Miami-Dade County), Metrorail station in Hialeah, Florida. The station is located at the intersection of West 20th Street and Florida State Road 25, Okeechobee Road (U.S. Route 27 in Florida, US 27), one block south of the Florida State Road 934, Hialeah Expressway (SR 934). It opened to passenger service on May 19, 1985, and was previously the northwestern terminus of the Metrorail system until Palmetto station opened in 2003. Okeechobee station is a train station in Okeechobee, Florida, served by Amtrak. History The previous depot at the site was built in 1924 for the Seaboard Air Line Railway, and was demolished in 2014.
