Ocean Park Hong Kong
Ocean Park Hong Kong, commonly known simply as Ocean Park, is an animal theme park in Hong Kong. Covering an area of in Wong Chuk Hang, it is the largest theme park by area in Hong Kong, and is also the city's second oldest theme park, after the now-defunct Lai Chi Kok Amusement Park. Opened on 10 January 1977, Ocean Park became popular, but 28 years later, it was unprofitable and widely expected to close due to the new Hong Kong Disneyland. Wong Chuk Hang () is a neighbourhood in the Southern District, Hong Kong, Southern District of Hong Kong Island, in Hong Kong. History Neolithic artifacts have been unearthed in a region called Chung Hom Wan, which is not far from Wong Chuk Hang. In 1550 the Hong Kong Village () was established in Wong Chuk Hang; it still exists, much diminished in size, as Wong Chuk Hang Kau Wai. Marineland of Florida (usually just called Marineland), one of Florida's first marine mammal parks, is billed as "the world's first oceanarium". Douglas Dean "Ted" Hammond (1936? – 25 November 2012) was an American veterinarian and amusement park consultant based in Asia. Career Before graduating from veterinary school in 1968, Ted Hammond worked with the Navy Marine Mammal Program near Point Mugu. He was a founding and honorary life member of the International Association for Aquatic Animal Medicine. Hammond was credited with research leading to a potential vaccine for melioidosis, caused by ''Burkholderia pseudomallei'', based on his work as the park curator of Ocean Park Hong Kong. He had been recruited by Dr. Ken Norris to work at Ocean Park. Hammond was instrumental in brokering the sales of live dolphins caught in the Taiji dolphin drive to many places around the world including Turkey, Mexico, and the Dominican Republic. Sea Life Park Hawaii is a marine mammal park, bird sanctuary and aquarium in Waimānalo near Makapuʻu Point, north of Hanauma Bay on the island of Oahu in Hawaii, United States. The park first opened in 1964 and in early 2025, the park was sold to Herschend Family Entertainment. Exhibits and facilities Dolphin Lagoon is the venue for the main Aloha Naia show times daily at 12:30 and 3:30pm. Marineland of the Pacific was a public oceanarium and tourist attraction located on the Palos Verdes Peninsula coast in Los Angeles County, California. Architect William Pereira designed the main structure. It was also known as Hanna-Barbera's Marineland during the late 1970s and early 1980s. Aberdeen ( ; Chinese: 香港仔; ) is an area on southwest Hong Kong Island in Hong Kong. Administratively, it is part of the Southern District. While the name "Aberdeen" could be taken in a broad sense to encompass the areas of Aberdeen (town), Wong Chuk Hang, Ap Lei Chau, Tin Wan, Wah Kwai Estate and Wah Fu Estate, it is more often used to refer to the town only.
