OFC Women's Champions League
The OFC Women's Champions League is the top-tier women's association football, women's football club competition in Oceania. It involves the top clubs from countries affiliated with the Oceania Football Confederation (OFC). The first edition was played in June 2023. AS Academy Féminine, AS Academy won that edition of the tournament after winning all four of their matches. Inaugural edition The first edition was planned for March 2023, but was then postponed to 1 to 10 June. The tournament was played in Papua New Guinea and was supposed to feature six teams from the region, but New Zealand's Eastern Suburbs AFC, Eastern Suburbs subsequently withdrew after the draw due to financial, logistical and security concerns. The five remaining teams played each other on a round-robin basis. The 2024 edition was played in the Solomon Islands and now featured eight teams in two groups followed by a knock-out stage. The Oceania Football Confederation (OFC) is one of the six continental confederations of international association football. The OFC has 13 members, 11 of which are full members and two which are associate members not affiliated with FIFA. It promotes the game in Oceania and allows the member nations to qualify for the FIFA World Cup. OFC is predominantly made up of island nations where association football is not the most popular sport, with low GDP and low population meaning very little money is generated by the OFC nations. Sir Hubert Murray Stadium
The Hubert Murray Stadium is a sports venue located in Port Moresby, the capital city of Papua New Guinea. It was developed for the 1969 South Pacific Games on reclaimed land at Konedobu that had previously been shoreline mangroves. The athletics events and the opening and closing ceremonies were held at the new stadium, which was named after Sir Hubert Murray, a former lieutenant governor. With an initial capacity of approximately 15,000 spectators, it was used for soccer and school athletic events after the 1969 games.
