The classification system of inhabited localities in Russia and some other post-Soviet states has certain peculiarities compared with those in other countries. Classes During the Soviet time, each of the republics of the Soviet Union, including the Russian SFSR, had its own legislative documents dealing with classification of inhabited localities. After the dissolution of the Soviet Union, the task of developing and maintaining such classification in Russia was delegated to the federal subjects.Articles 71 and 72 of the Constitution of Russia do not name issues of the administrative and territorial structure among the tasks handled on the federal level or jointly with the governments of the federal subjects. Novokubansk
Novokubansk (russian: Новокуба́нск) is a types of inhabited localities in Russia, town and the administrative center of Novokubansky District of Krasnodar Krai, Russia, located on the Kuban River. Population: 35,199 (2020), The population of Novokubansk accounts for 40.4% of the district's total population. History When the Caucasian War ended, in 1867, former soldiers decided to settle in a place which is now known as Novokubansk. In 1936, Novokubansk became the administrative center of Novokubansky District. During World War II, the town was occupied by the German troops on August 6, 1942 and remained occupied until its liberation on January 25, 1943. A raion (also spelt rayon) is a type of administrative unit of several post-Soviet states. The term is used for both a type of subnational entity and a division of a city.
