Gustav Wentzel (1859–1927) was a Norwegian painter. He was best known for interiors and domestic and rural scenes. His artistic style was associated with Naturalism and noted for accurate observations and attention to detail. Biography He was the eldest of seven children. His father, Jørgen, was a farm owner and ''salmakermester'' (someone who makes transport accessories, such as harnesses and seats). While still a boy, his father went bankrupt and his mother, Anne, opened a meat store to support the family. At the age of fifteen, he was apprenticed to a mason because he intended to become an architect. That same year, he began to take drawing lessons and decided to pursue art instead. Wilhelm Rasmussen
Wilhelm Rasmussen (15 June 1879 – 6 December 1965) was a Norwegian sculptor. Wilhelm Robert Rasmussen was born in Skien in Telemark county, Norway. He studied under Norwegian sculptors Brynjulf Bergslien and Lars Utne (1862–1922), and later trained at the Drawing Academy in Oslo from 1895 to 1900, then a short time in Paris in 1902 and in Italy in 1906. From 1921 to 1945 he was professor of sculptor at the Norwegian National Academy of Craft and Art Industry and had among others, Ørnulf Bast as a student. His most extensive work was the 34-meter high column originally titled ''Eidsvollsøylen'', which in 1925 had won the competition sponsored by the Parliament of Norway for a monument on Eidsvolls plass in front of the Parliament building in memory of the Norwegian Constitution. Martin Enevold Thømt (June 8, 1878 – June 21, 1958) was a Norwegian decorative painter. Life and work Thømt was born in Askim,Waterloo Normannsen, Sølvi. 2010. Klart for nye blikk på gamle skatter. Halfdan Egedius (May 5, 1877 – February 2, 1899) was a Norwegian painter and illustrator. Biography Halfdan Johnsen Egedius was born in Drammen in Buskerud county and grew up in Christiania (now Oslo). His interest in painting and illustration began at the age of 5 and he showed exceptional artistic abilities early. He attended art school from the age of 9 at the school of art of Knud Bergslien, where he was a pupil from 1886 to 1889. In 1891 he was a pupil of Erik Werenskiold, and from 1891 to 1892 he studied at the Arts and Crafts School in Christiania. In 1894 he attended the Harriet Backer art school. During spring 1896, he was a student of Kristian Zahrtmann in Copenhagen. From the age of 15 he began painting the landscape of Telemark. Ludvig Karsten (8 May 1876 – 19 October 1926) was a Norwegian painter. He was a neo-impressionist influenced by Edvard Munch, Henri Matisse and contemporary French painting. He first participated at the Autumn exhibition in Kristiania in 1901, and had his first separate exhibition in 1904. He is represented at museums in many Scandinavian cities, including several paintings at the National Gallery of Norway. Karsten was known for his bohemian lifestyle and quick temper. Personal life Karsten was born in Christiana as the son of builder Hans Heinrich Karsten and Ida Susanne Pfützenreuter. He was a brother of designer Marie Karsten and architect Heinrich Joachim Sebastian Karsten. Yngvar Sonnichsen (March 9, 1873 – July 1938) was a Norwegian born, American artist and painter known especially for his portraits, landscapes and murals. Background Yngvar Sonnichsen was born in Christiania, (now Oslo, Norway to S.P. and Inga Mathea Sonnichsen. He studied at the Norwegian Institute of Technology in Trondhjem earning a civil engineering degree. He studied art at the Norwegian National Academy of Craft and Art Industry with Norwegian artists Oscar Wergeland and Eilif Peterssen. Thorolf Holmboe
Thorolf Holmboe (10 May 18668 March 1935) was a Norwegian painter, illustrator and designer. Biography He was born in Vefsn, in Nordland county, Norway as the oldest son of Othar Ervigius Holmboe and his wife Sofie Birgitte Andrea Hall. He had one brother, Othar, who also became a painter. His grandfather was Michael Wide Holmboe, son of bailiff Jens Holmboe and brother of politicians Even, Leonhard and Hans Holmboe. In addition, he was the nephew of Jens Holmboe, cousin of Johan Henrik Rye Holmboe, and brother-in-law of Jappe Nilssen. He studied under Hans Gude in Berlin between 1886 and 1887 and Fernand Cormon in Paris between 1889 and 1891. He was inspired by many different styles at different points in his career, including Naturalism, Neo-romanticism, Realism and Impressionism. Emil Christensen Biorn (June 7, 1864 – July 30, 1935) was a Norwegian-born American sculptor, painter, and composer. Background Emil Biorn was born in Christiania, Norway, the son of Christian Biørn from Lier and his wife Karoline Agnete, née Høyerdahl (or Heyerdahl), from Aurskog. He was trained at both the Royal Norwegian School of Drawing and at Lindeman's School of Music in Oslo. Biorn studied art in Paris and as well as at the Chicago Art Institute. Career In 1887, Biorn came to America, where he was employed as a commercial artist by the Barnes-Crosby Company, an engraving firm in Chicago. He married Sigrid Lowsum (1870–1939) in 1891. From 1906 to 1914, Biorn was principal conductor of the Norwegian Singers' Society of America.
