North West Parks And Tourism Board
The North West Parks Board is a governmental organisation responsible for the management of protected areas and public nature reserves in North West Province, South Africa. The different reserves are scattered throughout the province, each with its unique features. Activities within the reserves are available for educational, recreation and enjoyment of both outdoor adventure enthusiasts and those who want a break away from the crowd. With the exception of Madikwe Game Reserve, all the reserves are open to day visitors and no prior booking is necessary. Accommodation range from rustic farm houses, tented camps, caravan and camping sites. In reserves where facilities are not provided, these are different privately owned accommodation either on the periphery of the reserves or in nearby towns. North West (South African Province)
North West is a province of South Africa. Its capital is Mahikeng. The province is located to the west of the major population centre of Gauteng and south of Botswana. History North West was incorporated after the end of Apartheid in 1994, and includes parts of the former Transvaal Province and Cape Province, as well as most of the former bantustan of Bophuthatswana. The Pilanesberg (formerly Pilandsberg) is a mountain in the North West Province, South Africa. The mountain is an ancient volcanic structure, circular in shape, that rises from flat surrounding plains. It is formed by three concentric ridges or rings of hills, of which the outermost has a diameter of about 24 km. The Pilanesberg is located 100 km to the North-West of Pretoria and is for the greater part enclosed in a protected area known as Pilanesberg National Park. The Elands River flows South of the Pilanesberg in an Easterly direction. There are a number of platinum mines right at the perimeter of the crater formation. Kgaswane Mountain Reserve
Kgaswane Mountain Reserve is a nature reserve of consisting of veld and mountains run by the North West Parks and Tourism Board. It is located south-west of Rustenburg on the northern slopes of the Magaliesberg, inside of the Magaliesberg Biosphere Reserve and alongside the western portion of the Magaliesberg Protected Natural Environment. Kgaswane is home to many species of flora and bird life and large and small mammals, and has been designated as a protected Ramsar site since 2019. Madikwe Game Reserve
The Madikwe Game Reserve is a protected area in South Africa, part of the latest park developments in the country. Named after the Madikwe or Marico River, on whose basin it is located, it was opened in 1991 and comprises 750 km² of bushland north of the small town Groot-Marico up to the Botswana border. Description Madikwe Game Reserve lies 90 km north of Zeerust on what used to be farm land, but owing to the poor soil type, farming was not that successful. Pilanesberg National Park
The Pilanesberg National Park is located north of Rustenburg in the North West Province of South Africa. The park borders on the Sun City entertainment complex. It is currently administered by the North West Parks and Tourism Board.
