Nguyễn Gia Trí
Nguyen Gia Tri or Nguyễn Gia Trí (Chương Mỹ, Hà Tây 1908 - 1993) was a Vietnamese painter best known for his lacquer paintings.''Insight Guides - Vietnam'' 2002 Page 110 "While Nguyen Gia Tri's works continue to generate acclaim for transforming the traditional decorative art form of lacquer to an Art Nouveau style depicting Vietnamese subjects and atmosphere, " He also drew cartoons on political and social issues, many of them criticising French colonial rule. Tri studied at the Hanoi College of Fine Arts (École des Beaux-Arts de l’Indochine) from 1932. He worked for the magazines ''Phong Hóa'' and ''Ngày Nay'' starting from 1932 together with Nhất Linh and other famous writers and painters. He created the cartoon characters ''Xã Xệ'' and ''Bang Bạnh'' for the magazines and made changes to the character '' Lý Toét'' developed by Nhất Linh. Tô Ngọc Vân
Tô Ngọc Vân (蘇玉雲, 15 December 1906 or 1908 – 17 June 1954), also known as Tô Tử, was a Vietnamese painter. Several of his paintings are being displayed at the Vietnam National Museum of Fine Arts. He taught a resistance art class in the northern zone during the war with the French, and died as the result of injuries received at the Battle of Điện Biên Phủ. He was among the first recipients of the Ho Chi Minh Prize in 1996. He worked as painting teacher in Bưởi school, professor at the École des Beaux-Arts de l’Indochine and principal of the Việt Bắc Art School and has had significant influence on a whole generation of artists in Vietnam. Vân contributed to the magazines of Tự Lực văn đoàn ("Self-Strengthening literary group") by drawing cartoons on current events, social issues, and everyday live. The Vietnam National Museum of Fine Arts ( vi, Viện Bảo tàng Mỹ thuật Việt Nam; vi-hantu, 院寶藏美術越南; french: Musée des Beaux-Arts du Viêt Nam) is located in Hanoi, Vietnam. It is a museum showcasing Vietnam's fine arts from a range of historical periods. It is the country's primary art museum, the second being the smaller Ho Chi Minh City Museum of Fine Arts. The Museum exhibits Vietnam's fine arts from the Ancient time till the Modern time. Much of the 20th Century art presented in the museum is concerned with folk narratives of a nation in defence. As a collection it draws on themes of martyrdom, patriotism, military strategy and overcoming enemy incursion.
