The Board of Elections in the City of New York (NYCBOE) conducts New York elections within New York City. It is an administrative body of ten Commissioners, two from each borough upon recommendation by both political parties and then appointed by the New York City Council for a term of four years. List Of Electronic Voting Machines In New York State
Following is a list of electronic voting machines in New York state. In 2010 New York State was the last state to switch to electronic voting under the Help America Vote Act. In doing so, New York abandoned its Shoup Lever Machines which had been used since 1962 and were originally built by American Voting Machines Company in Jamestown, New York. New York had a long established history with the lever machines going back to the patent for the lever machine by Alfred J. Gillespie and Standard Voting Machine Company of Rochester, New York, in the late 1890s. The device drew a privacy curtain around the voter and simultaneously unlocked the machine's levers for voting. In 1898, Gillespie and Jacob Myers formed the American Voting Machines Company. New York City is composed of five boroughs: The Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens, and Staten Island. Each borough is coextensive with a respective county of New York State, making New York City the largest U.S. municipality situated in multiple counties. The Democratic Party primary for the 2021 New York City mayoral election took place on June 22, 2021. Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams defeated 12 other candidates, including Kathryn Garcia, Maya Wiley and Andrew Yang.
