Fire Tower
A fire lookout tower, fire tower or lookout tower, provides housing and protection for a person known as a " fire lookout" whose duty it is to search for wildfires in the wilderness. It is a small building, usually on the summit of a mountain or other high vantage point, to maximize viewing distance and range, known as ''view shed''. From this vantage point the fire lookout can see smoke that may develop, determine the location by using a device known as an '' Osborne Fire Finder'', and call fire suppression personnel to the fire. Lookouts also report weather changes and plot the location of lightning strikes during storms. The location of the strike is monitored for a period of days afterwards, in case of ignition. Riverview is a town in Oconto County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 829 at the 2000 census. Geography According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 71.7 square miles (185.8 km2), of which, 69.7 square miles (180.6 km2) of it is land and 2.0 square miles (5.2 km2) of it (2.80%) is water. 2007 Tornado On June 7, 2007, an EF3 tornado struck the town of Riverview. The town municipal building and fire department were destroyed, along with nine homes. Lena, Wisconsin
Lena is a village in Oconto County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 564 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Green Bay Metropolitan Statistical Area. The village is located within the Town of Lena. History Originally known as Maple Valley, Lena owes its location to the railroads. The first white family at the site that became Lena was the French-Swiss immigrant Étienne Clement Roserens (also spelled Rosera, 1831–1911) together with his French-Canadian wife Vitaline née Tessier (1842–1919), who established a homestead in October 1872. Their daughter Anna Rosera Hendricks (1874–1951) was the first white child born in the settlement. Rosera Street in Lena is named after the family. Cobblestone is a natural building material based on cobble-sized stones, and is used for pavement roads, streets, and buildings. The Greek Revival was an architectural style, architectural movement which began in the middle of the 18th century but which particularly flourished in the late 18th and early 19th centuries, predominantly in northern Europe and the United States and Canada, but also in Greece itself following independence in 1832. A sawmill (saw mill, saw-mill) or lumber mill is a facility where logging, logs are cut into lumber. Lakewood is a town in Oconto County, Wisconsin, United States. As of the 2000 census, the town population was 875. The census-designated place of Lakewood is located in the town. History In March, 1952, three children disappeared during a late spring snow storm. A two-day search for them involved 1,000 people. Mary Ann Church, age 4, was the only one of the children who survived. The other children were found frozen to death in a nearby outbuilding in the Gillet Lake area.
