"Nuts in May" is the 12th episode of the sixth season of the British BBC anthology TV series ''Play for Today''. The episode was a television play that was originally broadcast on 13 January 1976. "Nuts in May" was written and directed by Mike Leigh, produced by David Rose, and starred Roger Sloman and Alison Steadman. "Nuts in May" is the comical story of a nature-loving and rather self-righteous couple's exhausting battle to enjoy what they perceive to be an idyllic camping holiday. Misunderstandings and awkward clashes of values occur, and an explosive conflict when a less high-minded guest pitches his tent nearby. Plot Childlike Candice-Marie Pratt (Alison Steadman) and eccentric-obsessive Keith Pratt ( Roger Sloman) arrive at a campsite in Dorset and pitch their tent in a quiet spot suitable for appreciating nature's wonders while keeping other human beings safely at arm's length. Nuts In May (rhyme)
"Nuts in May" is a singing game played by children with the aim of pairing a boy and girl from within two teams of participants. It was first recorded in the second half of the 19th century and has Roud Folk Song Index 6308. The game According to S. Brewer (2009), the game has two teams of children, who face each other in a line and the first team skips forward singing the opening stanza: ::Here we come gathering nuts in May, :::nuts in May, nuts in May. ::Here we come gathering nuts in May, :::on a cold and frosty morning. ''Nuts in May'' (1917) is a silent comedy short, directed by , produced by Isadore Bernstein, and featuring Stan Laurel, billed as Stan Jefferson, in his onscreen debut. The short was filmed at Bernstein Studios, in Hollywood, California. "A fragment" of the film survives (a little over 60 seconds). Plot Stan plays a resident of "Home for the Weak-Minded", apparently a lunatic asylum. Stan's particular delusion is that he thinks he's Napoleon. Stan walks the grounds of the cuckoo-hatch sticking his right hand into his shirt and wearing a Napoleon hat. He thinks he's Napoleon, but he gives the salute of the British army. Stan has his own personal keeper in the asylum: a taller moustached man who wears a kepi so that Stan will think he's a French officer. Stan gets out and finds some local boys, who eagerly join him in playing soldier. Stan's kepi-wearing keeper pursues him through the film.
