Norway competed at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris from 26 July to 11 August 2024. Norwegian athletes have appeared in every edition of the Summer Olympic Games, except for the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow because of the country's support for the United States-led boycott. The Norwegian Olympic and Paralympic Committee and Confederation of Sports ( no, Norges idrettsforbund og olympiske og paralympiske komité; NIF) is the umbrella organization for sport in Norway. It is the largest volunteering organization in Norway, with more than 2 million members and 12,000 sports clubs in 19 region confederations and 54 national federations. The current president is Berit Kjøll. History The organisation was founded in 1861 as ''Centralforeningen for Udbredelse af Legemsøvelser og Vaabenbrug'', and has later changed its name several times. The current name dates from 2007. Weightlifting At The 2024 Summer Olympics
The weightlifting competitions at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris are scheduled to run from 7 to 11 August at the Paris Expo Porte de Versailles. Several significant changes are instituted in the weightlifting program for Paris 2024, as the number of categories is trimmed from fourteen in Tokyo to ten. Furthermore, a total of 120 weightlifters, with an equal split between men and women, will compete in each of the ten weight classes, a massive drop from a full roster size of 196 at the previous Games. Qualification 120 weightlifting quota places, with an equal distribution between men and women, are available for Paris 2024, almost eighty fewer overall than those in Tokyo 2020. Qualified NOCs are permitted to enter a maximum of three weightlifters per gender, with a maximum of one in each bodyweight category. The handball tournaments at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, France will be held from 25 July to 11 August 2024. Preliminary pool matches will occur at South Paris Arena 6, with the final phase staged at Pierre Mauroy Stadium in Lille. The format remains the same since 2000 for the men and 2008 for the women, as twelve teams in two groups battle each other in the round robin, followed by the knockout matches for the top eight starting with the quarterfinals and ending with the final and bronze match. Events Two sets of medals will be awarded in the following events: * Men's handball (12 teams) * Women's handball (12 teams) Qualification The National Olympic Committees might enter only one 14-player men's team and only one 14-player women's team. Stine Bredal Oftedal (born 25 September 1991) is a Norwegian handball player for Győri ETO KC and the Norwegian national team, where she is the team captain. She was voted World Handball Player of the Year 2019 by the International Handball Federation. She hails from Nittedal and started her career in Nit/Hak HK. She then continued to Fjellhammer IL before continuing to Helset IF. Helset is a feeder team for Stabæk Håndball, and so she has played for Stabæk since the 2008–09 season while still being registered in Helset. She studied at BI Norwegian Business School.
