Norway At The 2016 Summer Olympics
Norway competed at the ''2016 Summer Olympics'' in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, from 5 to 21 August 2016. Since the nation's debut in 1900, Norwegian athletes have appeared in every edition of the Summer Olympic Games, except for two occasions: the 1904 Summer Olympics in St. Louis and the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow, due to the country's support for the United States-led boycott. Norwegian Olympic Committee and Confederation of Sports sent a team of 62 athletes, 29 men and 33 women, to compete in 13 sports at the Games. For only the fourth time in Olympic history, the Norwegian roster featured more female athletes than males, due to the participation of the women's handball squad at the Games, returning as two-time defending champions. Among the sports, Norway made its debut in golf (new to the 2016 Games) and triathlon, as well as returning to taekwondo after not being represented at London 2012. The Norwegian Olympic and Paralympic Committee and Confederation of Sports ( no, Norges idrettsforbund og olympiske og paralympiske komité; NIF) is the umbrella organization for sport in Norway. It is the largest volunteering organization in Norway, with more than 2 million members and 12,000 sports clubs in 19 region confederations and 54 national federations. The current president is Berit Kjøll. Olaf Tufte
Olaf Karl Tufte (born 27 April 1976 in Tønsberg) is a Norwegian representative rower, firefighter and farmer. He is a seven time Olympian, and as a single sculler he was twice the Olympic champion and twice the world champion. He's been consistently selected in the Norwegian men's senior national rowing squad since 1996 including his selection as a 2021 Tokyo Olympian where he made his seventh Olympic appearance racing in a quad scull for Norway. Early rowing career Tufte started rowing at aged 17, initially as a means to improve his handle on motor cross. He rows from the Horten Roklubb in Horten, Vestfold on the Oslofjord. He quickly displayed an aptitude for the sport and one year later in 1994, he debuted internationally for Norway rowing a single scull at the 1994 Junior World Rowing Championships. Kjetil Borch
Kjetil Borch (born 14 February 1990) is a Norwegian representative rower. He is a dual Olympian, an Olympic medallist and a two-time world champion. He has been selected as a 2021 Tokyo Olympian and is expected to make his third Olympic appearance racing the single scull for Norway. Rowing career Born in Tønsberg, Norway Borch began rowing in 2001, before taking a break and then starting again in 2004. He rows from the Horten Roklubb on the Oslofjord near Tonsberg.
