North–South MRT Line
The North–South Line (NSL) is a high-capacity Mass Rapid Transit (Singapore), Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) line in Singapore, operated by SMRT Corporation. Coloured red on the Singapore rail map, the line is long and serves 27 stations, 11 of which, between the Braddell MRT station, Braddell and Marina South Pier MRT station, Marina South Pier stations, are underground. It runs from Jurong East MRT station, Jurong East station, located in West Region, Singapore, Western Singapore, to Marina South Pier station in the Central Area, Singapore, Central Area, via Woodlands MRT station, Woodlands station in North Region, Singapore, northern Singapore. The line operates for almost 20 hours a day (from approximately 5am to 1am the next day), with headways of 1 to 2 minutes during peak hours and 5 to 6 minutes during off-peak hours. Kawasaki Heavy Industries & CRRC Qingdao Sifang C151C
The Kawasaki Heavy Industries & CRRC Qingdao Sifang C151C is the sixth generation electric multiple unit rolling stock in operation on the existing North–South (NSL) and East–West (EWL) lines of Singapore's Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) system, manufactured by a consortium of Kawasaki Heavy Industries (KHI) and CRRC Qingdao Sifang under Contract 151C. Twelve trains were purchased. They were delivered between 2017 and 2019, and were tested before the full service in 2019. The first was delivered on 27 October 2017. The interior design was unveiled on 28 February 2018 at Tuas Depot with two trains showcased. This brought the total number of trains operating on the NSEWL to 198 trainsets, up from the previous 186. The addition tripled the number of trains on the North–South and East–West Lines when they were first opened. East–West MRT Line
The East–West Line (EWL) is a high-capacity Mass Rapid Transit (Singapore), Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) line operated by SMRT Corporation, SMRT in Singapore, running from Pasir Ris MRT station, Pasir Ris station in the East Region, Singapore, east to Tuas Link MRT station, Tuas Link station in the West Region, Singapore, west, with an additional branch line, branch between Changi Airport MRT station, Changi Airport and Tanah Merah MRT station, Tanah Merah stations. It is the second Mass Rapid Transit line to be built in Singapore. Marina Bay MRT Station
Marina Bay MRT station is an underground Mass Rapid Transit (Singapore), Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) interchange station on the North South MRT line, North South (NSL), Circle MRT line, Circle (CCL) and Thomson–East Coast MRT line, Thomson–East Coast (TEL) lines in Singapore. Located in the Downtown Core district near Marina Bay, Singapore, Marina Bay, the station serves the Marina One, Marina One Residences, Marina Bay Suites and the Marina Bay Financial Centre. Marina Bay station was one of the last stations to be completed in the early phases of the construction of the MRT network, opening on 4 November 1989. Yishun MRT Station
Yishun MRT station ( ) is an above-ground Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) station on the North South line (NSL) in Yishun, Singapore. The station is located at the junction of Yishun Avenue 2 and Yishun Avenue 5, and is currently one of the two MRT stations that serve Yishun New Town; the other being Khatib station. Yishun station was the terminus of the NSL upon its completion on 20 December 1988, until the Woodlands Extension of the NSL was completed and opened on 10 February 1996. Raffles Place MRT Station
Raffles Place MRT station is an underground Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) interchange station on the North–South Line (NSL) and East–West Line (EWL) in Singapore. Located in the Downtown Core, the station is underneath Raffles Place south of the Singapore River. The station serves various landmarks including The Fullerton Hotel, Merlion Park and the Asian Civilisations Museum and various commercial buildings such as One Raffles Place and OCBC Centre. Initially named Central MRT station, the station was included in the early plans for the original MRT network in 1982. Construction of the tunnels between the City Hall and Raffles Place stations required the draining of the Singapore River. Toa Payoh MRT Station
Toa Payoh MRT station is an underground Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) station on the North South line (NSL) in Toa Payoh, Singapore. Located in the town centre of Toa Payoh, it is integrated with the Toa Payoh Bus Interchange and the HDB Hub, headquarters of the Housing and Development Board. The station is underneath the intersection of three roads: Lorong1 Toa Payoh, Lorong2 Toa Payoh and Lorong6 Toa Payoh. First announced in May 1982, construction of the station began in 1983 as part of PhaseI of the MRT system. In August 1985, it became the first Mass Rapid Transit station in Singapore to have its concrete structure completed. Headway
Headway is the distance or duration between vehicles in a transit system. The ''minimum headway'' is the shortest such distance or time achievable by a system without a reduction in the speed of vehicles. The precise definition varies depending on the application, but it is most commonly measured as the distance from the tip (front end) of one vehicle to the tip of the next one behind it. It can be expressed as the distance between vehicles, or as time it will take for the trailing vehicle to cover that distance. A "shorter" headway signifies closer spacing between the vehicles. North Region, Singapore
The North Region (, zh, 北區) of Singapore is one of the five regions in the city-state. The region is the second largest region in terms of land area, and has a population of 582,330. Woodlands is the regional centre and also the most populous town with 255,130 residents living in the area. Comprising 13,500 hectares of land area, it includes eight planning areas. Woodlands MRT Station
Woodlands MRT station is a Mass Rapid Transit (Singapore), Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) interchange station on the North–South MRT line, North–South (NSL) and Thomson–East Coast MRT line, Thomson–East Coast (TEL) lines in Singapore. Located in Woodlands, Singapore, Woodlands, the MRT station was the first to feature Woodlands Bus Interchange, an underground bus interchange underneath the NSL station. The station is also integrated with surrounding developments, including Causeway Point and the Woodlands Civic Centre.
