North Texas Mean Green Men's Basketball
The North Texas Mean Green men's basketball team represents the University of North Texas (UNT) in National Collegiate Athletic Association, NCAA Division I (NCAA), Division I college basketball, competing as a member of the American Athletic Conference. For most of its history, the Mean Green have had patches of success, starting in the 1970s when the team received its first top-20 ranking under head coach Bill Blakeley as well as success in the late 1980s and early 1990s under head coach Jimmy Gales and then again in the mid to late 2000s under head coach Johnny Jones (basketball, born 1961), Johnny Jones. The NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament, branded as March Madness, or The Big Dance, is a single-elimination tournament played in the United States to determine the men's college basketball national champion of the Division I level in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). The Super Pit
The UNT Coliseum is a 9,797-seat multi-purpose arena located in Denton, Texas, United States, built in 1973. While the arena's formal name is the UNT Coliseum, the building is more commonly referred to as the Super Pit, a nickname derived from its proximity to the former home of the Mean Green basketball teams, the Ken Bahnsen Gym, nicknamed the ''Snake Pit''. Ken Bahnsen Gym, formerly known as the Men's Gymnasium, is a 5,000-seat multi-purpose arena on the campus of the University of North Texas in Denton, Texas, United States. Tony L. Benford (born March 22, 1964) is an American basketball coach who is an assistant coach of the TCU Horned Frogs men's basketball team. Biography A native of Hobbs, New Mexico — and 1982 graduate of Hobbs High School — Benford played under coach Ralph Tasker. Benford is married with four children. He attended Texas Tech University, where he played on the Red Raiders basketball team for head coach Gerald Myers. While Benford played for Texas Tech, the 1984–85 Red Raiders team won both the Southwest Conference (SWC) regular season title and SWC Classic. Tony LaShae Mitchell Jr. (born April 7, 1992) is an American professional basketball player. He competed in college for North Texas. Mitchell is , weighs 235 pounds and plays the forward position. Mitchell was selected in the 2013 NBA draft in the second round (37th overall). High school career Mitchell played three years of prep basketball. For his career, he posted over 1,500 points and 700 rebounds. As a senior at L. G.
