Gloristine Brown is an American politician and member of the North Carolina House of Representatives for the 8th district, which includes Pitt County. A Democrat, she was first elected in 2022 in the 2022 North Carolina House of Representatives election with 13,116 votes against republican opponent Charles Vincent. She has also been the mayor of Bethel, North Carolina since 2014, and been part of the Bethel Town Board since 1999. Martin County, North Carolina
Martin County is a county located in the U.S. state of North Carolina. As of the 2020 census, the population was 22,031. Its county seat is Williamston. History The county was formed in 1774 from the southeastern part of Halifax County and the western part of Tyrrell County. It was named for Josiah Martin, the last royal governor of North Carolina (1771–75). Whereas Dobbs County and Tryon County, named for Martin's predecessors Arthur Dobbs and William Tryon, were abolished after American independence, Martin County was neither abolished nor renamed, a fact which has been attributed to the popularity of Alexander Martin, twice governor of the state (1782–84, 1789–92). 2022 North Carolina Senate Election
An election will be held on November 8, 2022 to elect all 50 members to North Carolina's Senate. The election will coincide with the elections for other offices, including the U.S Senate, U.S. House of Representatives, and state house. The filing period lasted from February 24, 2022 to March 4, 2022, with the primary election being held on May 17, 2022 (prior to the redistricting challenges it was scheduled to be held on March 8, 2022). The elections were originally to be held under new districts passed by the General Assembly in Senate Bill 739 to account for population changes following the 2020 census, however, following a ruling by the North Carolina Supreme Court, the General Assembly redrew the maps (Senate Bill 744) to comply with the court's ruling. Kandie Diane Smith (born October 20, 1969) is a Democratic member of the North Carolina House of Representatives. Smith has represented the 8th district (including constituents in Pitt County) since 2019. She was previously the interim mayor of Greenville, North Carolina. Wilson County is a county located in the U.S. state of North Carolina. As of the 2020 census, the population was 78,784. The county seat is Wilson. The county comprises the Wilson Micropolitan Statistical Area, which is also included within the Rocky Mount–Wilson– Roanoke Rapids Combined Statistical Area. History On February 13, 1855, the North Carolina General Assembly established Wilson County "out of portions of Edgecombe, Johnston, Nash, and Wayne Counties." Edgecombe County is a county located in the U.S. state of North Carolina. As of the 2020 census, the population was 48,900. Its county seat is Tarboro. Edgecombe County is part of the Rocky Mount, North Carolina, Metropolitan Statistical Area. History The county was formed in 1741 from Bertie County. Greene County is a county located in the U.S. state of North Carolina. As of the 2020 census, the population was 20,451. Its county seat is Snow Hill. History Greene County, being a part of land grant by King Charles II of England in 1663, was first settled around 1710 by immigrants from Maryland, Virginia, and parts of North Carolina. The original inhabitants of the area, the Tuscarora Indians, fought with these immigrants and on March 20–23, 1713, a fighting force of South Carolinians and Yamasee Indians, under Colonel Murice Moore, defeated the Tuscarora, under the leadership of Chief Hancock.
