Caswell County, North Carolina
Caswell County is a county in the U.S. state of North Carolina. It is located in the Piedmont Triad region of the state. At the 2020 census, the population was 22,736. Its county seat is Yanceyville. Partially bordering the state of Virginia, the county was formed from Orange County in 1777 and named for Richard Caswell, the first governor of North Carolina. Other Caswell County communities include Blanch, Casville, Leasburg, Milton, Pelham, Prospect Hill, Providence, and Semora. The Dan River flows through a portion of the county. James David Gailliard (born January 9, 1965) is an American pastor and politician. He is senior pastor and CEO of Word Tabernacle Church in Rocky Mount, North Carolina, and a Democratic former member of the North Carolina House of Representatives. Gailliard represented the 25th district (including most of Nash County) from 2019 to 2023. He attended Morehouse College and St. Joseph's University. North Carolina elections to choose members of the Council of State (who head various executive branch departments) were held November 4, 2008. This coincided with the presidential, U.S. Senate, U.S. House, gubernatorial, and statewide judicial elections. Primary elections were held on May 6, 2008 for races in which more than one candidate filed for a party's nomination. One of the results of the general election was that women held a majority (six of 10, including the Governor) of the seats on the Council of State for the first time.
