''No Friend But the Mountains: Writing from Manus Prison'' is an autobiographical account of Behrouz Boochani's perilous journey to Christmas Island and his subsequent incarceration in an Australian government immigration detention facility on Manus Island. Background The book was written on a mobile phone using WhatsApp and smuggled out of Manus Island as thousands of PDF files. It was translated from Persian into English by Omid Tofighian, Honorary Associate at the University of Sydney's Philosophy Department. It was published by Picador in late 2018. In his foreword to the work, Australian writer Richard Flanagan refers to Boochani as "a great Australian writer", who has written not only a "strange and terrible book", but an "account hatdemands a reckoning" for the cruelty to and deliberate destruction of hope of the detainees. Behrouz Boochani
Behrouz Boochani (; born 23 July 1983) is a Iranian Kurdistan, Kurdish-Iranian journalist, human rights defender, writer and film producer living in New Zealand. He was held in the Australian-run Manus Regional Processing Centre, Manus Island detention centre in Papua New Guinea from 2013 until its closure in 2017. He remained on the island before being moved to Port Moresby along with the other detainees around September 2019. On 14 November 2019 he arrived in Christchurch on a one-month visa, to speak at a special event organised by WORD Christchurch on 29 November, as well as other speaking events. In December 2019, his one month visa to New Zealand expired and he remained on an expired visa until being granted refugee status in July 2020, at which time he became a Senior Adjunct Research Fellow at the University of Canterbury. Prose

Letter From Birmingham Jail
The "Letter from Birmingham Jail", also known as the "Letter from Birmingham City Jail" and "The Negro Is Your Brother", is an open letter written on April 16, 1963, by Martin Luther King Jr. It says that people have a moral responsibility to break unjust laws and to take direct action rather than waiting potentially forever for justice to come through the courts. Responding to being referred to as an "outsider", King writes: "Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere." The letter, written in response to "A Call for Unity" during the 1963 Birmingham campaign, was widely published, and became an important text for the civil rights movement in the United States. Wole Soyinka
Wole Soyinka , (born 13 July 1934) is a Nigerian author, best known as a playwright and poet. He has written three novels, ten collections of short stories, seven poetry collections, twenty five plays and five memoirs. Ray Parkin
Raymond Edward Parkin (6 November 191019 June 2005) was an Australian naval seaman, writer, draftsman, artist and historian. He is noted for his memoirs of World War II (including his time as a prisoner-of-war), and for a major work on James Cook's ''Endeavour'' voyage. Early life Parkin was born in the Melbourne suburb of Collingwood, Victoria, Collingwood on 6 November 1910, the youngest of three children. An early interest in ships saw him join the sea scouts. Prison Notebooks
The ''Prison Notebooks'' ( ) are a series of essays written by the Italian Marxism, Marxist Antonio Gramsci. Gramsci was imprisoned by the Italian Fascist regime in 1926. The notebooks were written between 1929 and 1935, when Gramsci was released from prison to a medical center on grounds of ill-health. His friend, Piero Sraffa, had supplied the writing implements and notebooks. Gramsci died in April 1937. Gramsci wrote more than 30 notebooks and 3,000 pages of history and analysis during his imprisonment. The original ''Prison Notebooks'' are kept at the Fondazione Gramsci in Rome. These notebooks were initially smuggled out of prison, catalogued by Gramsci's sister-in-law Tatiana Schucht, and sent to Moscow for safekeeping. They were returned to Italy after World War II and have since been preserved by the Gramsci Foundation.
