The Nittany Lion Wrestling Club (NLWC) is a wrestling club and nonprofit organization. It was designated by USA Wrestling as a U.S. Olympic Regional Training Center. It hosts its practices at the Penn State wrestling room in State College, Pennsylvania. Amateur Wrestling
Amateur wrestling is a variant of wrestling practiced at Olympic Games, Olympic, Collegiate wrestling, collegiate, Scholastic wrestling, scholastic, and other levels. There are two international wrestling styles performed at the Olympic Games, freestyle wrestling, freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling, Greco-Roman, both of which are governed by the United World Wrestling (UWW). At the middle school and high school levels, wrestlers compete in scholastic wrestling. In collegiate wrestling, there are minor differences in some scholastic wrestling rules. The rapid rise in the popularity of the combat sport mixed martial arts (MMA) has increased interest in amateur wrestling due to its effectiveness within the sport and its consideration as a core discipline. Anthony Cassar
Anthony Cassar (born March 9, 1996) is an American freestyle wrestler and graduated folkstyle wrestler. He was an NCAA Division I champion and a Big Ten Conference champion at Penn State University, and a NJSIAA title holder as a high schooler. Folkstyle career High school Raised in Rocky Hill, New Jersey, Cassar started wrestling at around age 7 or 8. He attended Montgomery High School in New Jersey. During his freshman, sophomore and junior years, he never qualified for states and compiled a record of 73 wins and 30 losses. In his senior year, he finally qualified for state and became the fourth person in the history of the state to win the tournament after never qualifying before. Aaron Marquel Brooks (born June 15, 2000) is an American freestyle and folkstyle wrestler who competes at 86 kilograms. He earned a bronze medal while representing the United States at the 2024 Summer Olympics, and is also a U23 World champion and US National champion. In collegiate wrestling, Brooks was the seventh four-time NCAA Division I National champion in history, and was also a four-time Big Ten Conference champion out of the Pennsylvania State University. Beau Reynald Bartlett (born February 26, 2001) is an American freestyle and folkstyle wrestler who competes internationally at 65 kilograms and collegiately at 141 pounds. In freestyle, he claimed a bronze medal from the 2021 Junior World Championships. He is currently a senior at 141 pounds for Penn State. Bryce Robert Meredith (born April 29, 1995) is an American professional mixed martial artist, former freestyle and graduated folkstyle wrestler who currently competes in the bantamweight division. He has previously competed for Bellator MMA. In college, where he competed at 141 pounds, he was a three–time NCAA Division I All–American and the 2018 Big 12 Conference champion out of the University of Wyoming. Michael Justin Macchiavello (born December 24, 1994) is an American freestyle wrestler and graduated folkstyle wrestler. During his collegiate career at NC State, Macchiavello won the 2018 NCAA Division I Wrestling title at 197-pounds. Following college, he would continue wrestling on the senior level freestyle circuit.
