Common Nightingale
The common nightingale, rufous nightingale or simply nightingale (''Luscinia megarhynchos''), is a small passerine bird which is best known for its powerful and beautiful Bird vocalization, song. It was formerly classed as a member of the Thrush (bird), thrush family Turdidae, but is now more generally considered to be an Old World flycatcher, Muscicapidae. It belongs to a group of more terrestrial species, often called Chat (bird), chats. Etymology "Nightingale" is derived from "night" and the Old English ''galan'', "to sing". The genus name ''Luscinia'' is Latin for "nightingale" and ''megarhynchos'' is from Ancient Greek ''megas'', "great" and ''rhunkhos'' "bill". Nightingale (musical)
''Nightingale: A New Musical'' is a musical (described by the composer as a children's opera) in one act, with book, music and lyrics by Charles Strouse. It is based on Hans Christian Andersen's 1843 fairy tale, " The Nightingale", and tells the story of a Chinese emperor who learns, nearly too late, that wealth cannot buy happiness. The work premiered in the U.S. as a fully staged production at the First All Children's Theatre, 37 West 65th Street in New York, in May 1982, directed and staged by Meridee Stein, along with associate director and choreographer Linda Reiff, with sets by Oliver Smith, costumes by Christine Andrews, and lighting by Victor En Yu Tan. Gilberto Passos Gil Moreira (; born 26 June 1942), is a Brazilian singer-songwriter and politician, known for both his musical innovation and political activism. Christine Guldbrandsen (born 19 March 1985 in Bergen, Norway) is a singer who is best known internationally for being the Norwegian entrant in the 2006 Eurovision Song Contest. She has released three albums in Scandinavia: '' Surfing in the Air'', '' Moments'', and '' Christine''. A new album, ''Colors'', was released on 8 April 2011. The Dixie Nightingales, also known as Ollie & the Nightingales and The Nightingales, was an African-American male vocal group, whose repertoire included gospel and later rhythm and blues and soul music. Nightingale is a Swedish rock music, rock band from Örebro Municipality, Örebro. History Nightingale began in 1995 as a solo project of Dan Swanö, designed to explore his brief fascination with more of a cleanly-sung rock style evident on Edge of Sanity tracks such as "Sacrificed". The first album ''The Breathing Shadow'' was recorded and mastered by Swanö alone in the space of a week at his home Unisound Studios, Unisound studio, and has been described by some as a tribute to goth rock band The Sisters of Mercy. In 2012, the La Jolla Playhouse in California generated nationwide controversy for the casting of a musical adaptation of Hans Christian Andersen's 1843 story " The Nightingale", set in ancient China. The play was part of the La Jolla Playhouse's " Page to Stage" program, a workshop series in which unfinished new works are tested and altered during the show's run. Two Asian-American actors were cast, and the remainder of the cast were African-American and Caucasian. The Asian American Theatre Community expressed their indignation on the lack of Asian-American actors cast.
