Nicole, Duchess Of Lorraine
Nicole (3 October 1608 – 2 February 1657) was List of rulers of Lorraine, reigning Duchess of Lorraine and Bar from 1 August 1624 to 21 November 1625, and Duchess of Lorraine, duchess consort of Lorraine in 1625–1634. She was born in Nancy, France, Nancy, the daughter of Henry II, Duke of Lorraine and Bar, and Margherita Gonzaga, Duchess of Lorraine, Margherita Gonzaga. Early life In the absence of a son, Margherita and Henry attempted to secure the inheritance of Duchy of Lorraine, Lorraine and Duchy of Bar, Bar for their eldest daughter Nicole. Her father had no son and wanted to leave the Duchy of Lorraine to Nicole, but a supposed testament by René II of Lorraine specified that the duchy could not bypass the male lineage. Vincenzo II Gonzaga
Vincenzo II Gonzaga (8 February 1594 – 25 December 1627) was Duke of Mantua and Duke of Montferrat from 1626 until his death. Vincenzo was the son of Duke Vincent I and Eleonora de' Medici and inherited the duchy upon the death of his elder brother Ferdinand, receiving the imperial investiture on 8 February 1627. He received a cardinalate in 1615 upon Ferdinando's succession, but did not travel to Rome to receive the red hat; the following year he married his relative Isabella Gonzaga, daughter of Alfonso Gonzaga, Count of Novellara, and the pope deprived him of his cardinalate. He and Isabella did not have any children, and as the only surviving son, he was encouraged to take a new wife; however the pope would not grant him a divorce. Countess Christina of Salm-Badenweiler (1575–1627), was a Duchess consort of Lorraine; married in 1597 to Francis II, Duke of Lorraine. Béatrix de Cusance, Baroness of Belvoir (27 December 1614 – 5 June 1663), was the second wife of Charles IV, former reigning Duke of Lorraine. She was a correspondent of Constantijn Huygens. Charles I Gonzaga (; 6 May 1580 – 22 September 1637) was Duke of Mantua and Duke of Montferrat from 1627 until his death. He was also Charles III as Duke of Nevers and Duke of Rethel, Rethel, as well as Prince of Arche and Charleville.
