Nicholas Conroy
Nicholas Conroy (1816 – October 13, 1879) was an Irish-born farmer and politician in Prince Edward Island. He represented 1st Prince in the Legislative Assembly of Prince Edward Island from 1846 to 1850 as a Tory and from 1859 to 1867 and from 1873 to 1879 as a Liberal member. He was born in Rathdowney, the son of Thomas Conroy, and came to Prince Edward Island with his father in 1835. He ran unsuccessfully for a seat in the provincial assembly in 1842 but was elected in 1846. In 1851, he married Catherine McDonald. Conroy was defeated in 1867 in 1st Prince but was reelected in an 1873 by-election after George William Howlan was named to the Canadian Senate. Rathdowney
Rathdowney or Rathdowny () is a small town in southwest County Laois, Ireland. It lies some 32 km southwest of Portlaoise in the Irish Midlands, at the point where the R433 regional road from Abbeyleix to Templemore is crossed by the R435 from Borris-in-Ossory to Johnstown. The R433 provides access for Rathdowney to the Dublin-Cork M8 motorway, while the R435 links the town to the Dublin-Limerick M7. As of the 2016 census, the population of Rathdowney was 1,271. George William Howlan
George William Howlan (May 19, 1835 – May 11, 1901) was an Irish-born merchant, ship owner and political figure in Prince Edward Island. He represented 1st Prince in the Legislative Assembly of Prince Edward Island from 1863 to 1873 as a Liberal member. He represented Alberton division in the Senate of Canada from 1873 to 1894 and was the province's sixth Lieutenant Governor from 1894 to 1899. He was born in Wexford and came to Nova Scotia with his parents in the late 1830s. They settled in Prince Edward Island in 1839. Howlan was educated in Charlottetown and was hired as a clerk in a store there in 1850. He moved to Cascumpec (later Alberton), first working for a Boston merchant there and then setting up his own business. In 1866, he married Elizabeth Olson. Howlan was named to the Executive Council in 1867, serving until 1873. Tignish is a Canadian town located in Prince County, Prince Edward Island. It is located approximately northwest of the city of Summerside, Prince Edward Island, Summerside, and northwest of the city of Charlottetown. It has a population of 719. The name "Tignish" is derived from the Mi'kmaq "Mtagunich", meaning "paddle". The name is also believed to come from a Gaelic phrase meaning “Home Place”.
