Nicholas, Count Of Salm
Nicholas, Count of Salm (1459 – Salmhof, Marchegg, Lower Austria, 4 May 1530) was a German soldier and an Imperial senior military commander (German: ''Feldherr''). His greatest achievement was the defence of Vienna during the first siege by the Ottoman Empire in 1529. Life At the age of 17 in 1476, Nicholas participated in the Battle of Morat against Charles the Bold. In 1488, he fought in Flanders and was made an Imperial Colonel three years later. In 1509, he fought in Italy under Georg von Frundsberg and conquered Istria. The Rathausplatz is a square in Vienna's Districts of Vienna, first district, the Innere Stadt, in front of the Vienna City Hall, Rathaus. It is surrounded by the Rathauspark and the Ringstrasse. History The area now known as Rathausplatz was originally part of the Josefstädter Glacis, an open grassland in front of Linienwall, Vienna’s city walls, maintained as a defensive field. In the 19th century, it served as a parade and drill ground for the imperial army. With more than 200 published books and more than 43 million sold copies he is considered one of the most successful German writers in the fantasy genre.
