The New World Translation of the Holy Scriptures (NWT, also simply NW) is a Bible translations, translation of the Bible published by the Watch Tower Bible and Tract Society of Pennsylvania, Watch Tower Bible and Tract Society; it is used and distributed by Jehovah's Witnesses. The New Testament portion was released first, in 1950, as the ''New World Translation of the Christian Greek Scriptures'', with the complete ''New World Translation'' of the Bible released in 1961. It is not the first Bible to be published by the Watch Tower Society, but it is its first translation into English. The Old Testament (OT) is the first division of the Christian biblical canon, which is based primarily upon the 24 books of the Hebrew Bible, or Tanakh, a collection of ancient religious Hebrew and occasionally Aramaic writings by the Israelites. New American Standard Bible
The New American Standard Bible (NASB, also simply NAS for "New American Standard") is a translation of the Bible in contemporary English. Published by the Lockman Foundation, the complete NASB was released in 1971. New revisions were published in 1995 and 2020. The NASB relies on recently published critical editions of the original Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek texts. It is known for preferring a literal translation style that generally preserves the structure of the original language when possible ( formal equivalence), rather than an idiomatic style that attempts to match natural English usage. Lockman Foundation
The Lockman Foundation is a nonprofit, interdenominational Christian ministry dedicated to the translation, publication, and distribution of Bibles and other biblical resources in English and other languages. The foundation's core products are the New American Standard Bible and the Amplified Bible, both evolving from the 1901 American Standard Version. By 2009, the foundation had distributed about 25 million Bibles. The foundation was established in 1942 by F. Dewey Lockman (1898–1974) and his wife Minna Lockman when they donated part of their citrus ranch in La Habra, California. Dewey Lockman led the foundation until his death, followed by Samuel Sutherland (1974–1979), and Robert Lambeth (1979–2017). Jason David BeDuhn (born 1963) is an American historian of religion and culture, currently Professor of Religious Studies at Northern Arizona University, and former chair of the Department of Humanities, Arts, and Religion. Milton George Henschel (August 9, 1920 – March 22, 2003) was a member of the Governing Body of Jehovah's Witnesses from 1971 until his death in 2003. He succeeded Frederick W. Franz as president of the Watch Tower Society, serving from 1992 until 2000. Personal life Milton Henschel was born in Pomona, New Jersey. Frederick William Franz (September 12, 1893 – December 22, 1992) was appointed president of the Watch Tower Bible and Tract Society of Pennsylvania, a legal entity used to administer the work of Jehovah's Witnesses. Nathan Homer Knorr (April 23, 1905 – June 8, 1977) was a Christian minister and the third president of the incorporated Watch Tower Bible and Tract Society (called Watch Tower Bible and Tract Society of Pennsylvania since 1955). He was appointed president in January 1942, replacing Joseph Franklin Rutherford, who had served in the position since 1917. Raymond Franz
Raymond Victor Franz (May 8, 1922 – June 2, 2010) was a member of the Governing Body of Jehovah's Witnesses from October 20, 1971, until his removal on May 22, 1980, and served at the organization's world headquarters for fifteen years, from 1965 until 1980. Franz stated that the request for his resignation and his subsequent disfellowshipping resulted from allegations of apostasy. Old Aramaic
Old Aramaic refers to the earliest stage of the Aramaic language, known from the Aramaic inscriptions discovered since the 19th century.
