The 217th New Jersey Legislature began on January 12, 2016 and ended on January 9, 2018, in the last two years of the Governorship of Chris Christie. Background The elections for the Assembly were held on November 3, 2015, while elections for the Senate, and Assembly were held on November 5, 2013 alongside the 2013 New Jersey gubernatorial election. In the 2015 Assembly elections Democrats gained four seats in the assembly giving them over 50 seats in the Assembly. Donna Simon
Donna M. Simon (born March 25, 1960) is an American Republican Party politician who served in the New Jersey General Assembly, representing the 16th legislative district from January 30, 2012, until January 12, 2016. Prior to her Assembly career, she served on the Readington Township Committee. Biography Simon was educated at Kean College and the School of Cardiac Technology at Union County Technical Institute. She is trained as a cardiovascular specialist. Simon joined the Readington Township Board of Health in 2009. James "Jim" Beach (born October 28, 1946) is an American Democratic Party politician who has served in the New Jersey Senate since 2009, where he represents the 6th legislative district. He has been the Assistant Majority Leader in the Senate since 2016. Early life Beach has earned a B.S. degree in psychology from Midwestern College and a M.A. degree in personnel services from Rowan University.
