Neil Adams (rugby Union)
Neil Joseph Adams (26 August 1923 – 12 April 1986) was an Australian rugby union international. Adams was born in Wyong on the NSW Central Coast and went to school in Newcastle, attending Marist Brothers Hamilton until he left at age 14 to become a carpet layer. After playing rugby league for the Army in the war years, during which he served in the Pacific, he made his first-grade rugby debut for his club Merewether Carlton in 1946. A powerful prop, Adams had several years as a New South Wales representative before getting a Wallabies call up for the 1955 tour of New Zealand, at the late age of 31. He gained his solitary Wallabies cap in the 1st Test in Wellington. Adams, who had six years as a NSW Country selector, died of pneumonia in 1986 aged 62. Wyong, New South Wales
Wyong () is a town in the Central Coast of New South Wales, located approximately 63 km SSW of Newcastle and 89 km NNE of Sydney. Established in 1888, it is one of the two administrative centres for the local government area. History Wyong is an indigenous word meaning either 'an edible yam' or 'place of running water'. William Cape was the first European settler to settle in the area and bring cattle and sheep into the district, on a land grant bordering Jilliby Creek in 1825. Merewether Carlton Rugby Club
Merewether Carlton Rugby Club, also known as The Greens is a rugby union club based in the Newcastle, NSW region of Australia. They play in the Newcastle and Hunter Rugby Union’s Premier Competition, as well as fielding teams in other senior and junior NHRU competitions. The club was formed in 1930 from the amalgamation of Cooks Hill Carlton and Cooks Hill Surf club. Cooks Hill Carlton was established in 1887, making it one of the oldest clubs in Australia. Merewether Carlton has been one of the most successful clubs in the competition, winning more Club Championships and First Grade Premierships than any other club. Currently they field five senior teams, a colts (under 20) team, a women’s team and junior teams from under 8s to under 18s. The Australia national rugby union team, nicknamed the Wallabies, is the representative national team in the sport of rugby union for the nation of Australia. The team first played at Sydney in 1899, winning their first test match against the touring British Isles team. Australia have competed in all nine Rugby World Cups, winning the final on two occasions and also finishing as runner-up twice. Australia beat England at Twickenham in the final of the 1991 Rugby World Cup and won again in 1999 at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff when their opponents in the final were France.
