Neighbourhoods In North Bay, Ontario
The Canadian city of North Bay, Ontario, is divided into numerous neighbourhoods. Birchaven Birchaven1 is a neighbourhood located to the south of Trout Lake Road. Many people unfamiliar with this area and have incorrect maps mistakenly believe that it is called Birch Haven. Birchaven1 borders Trout Lake and extends to Wallace Road. Downtown North Bay's Downtown is located along the shore of Lake Nipissing, between the Gateway and Ferris neighbourhoods. The area is aligned southeast to northwest, and bounded roughly by Fisher Street, Memorial Drive, Algonquin Avenue and Fifth Avenue. Feronia Feronia is a dispersed rural community and unincorporated place (). It used to be a farming community with a school, general store and community centre. East Ferris is a township (Canada), township in northeastern Ontario, Canada located between Trout Lake (Ontario), Trout Lake and Lake Nosbonsing in the Nipissing District, Ontario, District of Nipissing. West Ferris Township, Ontario, West Ferris has long been annexed into the city of North Bay, Ontario, North Bay. Communities The main communities within East Ferris are Astorville and Corbeil. There are also smaller residential areas in the township, known as Derland Road and Lake Nosbonsing. Astorville and Derland were formerly stops along the Canadian National Railway Alderdale Subdivision. Rail service declined in the mid-20th century and was eliminated altogether in 1996. In July 2005, Astorville hosted the first Northern Ontario Ball Hockey Championship. The Forest Rangers (TV Series)
''The Forest Rangers'' is a Canadian television series that ran from 1963 to 1965. It was a co-production between CBC Television and ITC Entertainment and was Canada's first television show produced in colour. Executive producer Maxine Samuels founded the show. The series ran for three seasons, a total of 104 30-minute colour episodes (although Canadian and UK audiences would not get to see them in colour until long after the series ended). Early episodes of the series were broadcast in serialized form as part of a CBC children's series entitled ''Razzle Dazzle'', hosted by Alan Hamel and Michelle Finney. This was the first appearance in a major series by Gordon Pinsent. He left the series in 1965 to star in ''Quentin Durgens, M.P.''. Widdifield Secondary School (WSS) was an English public high school in North Bay, Ontario, Canada. It was part of the Near North District School Board. Overview The school was founded in 1965 and named after Joseph Henry Widdifield, a nineteenth-century physician and member of the Legislative Assembly of Ontario for York North. It had a capacity of 1,164 students and the active student body generally ranged from 900 to 1,000. Because of the extensive school zone, approximately 35–65% of students were bussed in. The school's motto was "Mens Quaerens in Corpore Sano," loosely meaning "an inquiring mind in a sound body" in Latin. Trout Lake (Ontario)
Trout Lake is a lake in the municipalities of East Ferris and North Bay, Nipissing District, Northeastern Ontario, Canada. It lies approximately east of the much larger Lake Nipissing, with the city of North Bay in between them. Trout Lake is the source of the Mattawa River and a significant body of water on a well-known historic North American voyageur (fur-trading) route. It is about long and wide and exits eastward into the Mattawa River, which flows via the Ottawa River to the St. Lawrence River. Some of the most difficult portages are found on this part of the voyageur route between Trout Lake and the end of the Mattawa River, e.g., Portage de Mauvaise Musique, located at the Talon Chute (named after explorer and voyageur Jean Talon). Joseph Henry Widdifield
Joseph Henry Widdifield (June 12, 1845 – June 3, 1906) was a Canadian physician and political figure. He represented York North in the Legislative Assembly of Ontario as a Liberal member from 1875 to 1888. Life Widdifield was born on June 12, 1845, in Whitchurch, Upper Canada, to Charles Ellis Widdifield, and studied medicine at Victoria College and St Thomas's Hospital Medical School in London. On his return to Canada, Widdifield set up practice in Newmarket. He served as a coroner and justice of the peace of Victoria County. He also served in the militia during the Fenian raids. He was whip for the provincial Liberal party from 1877 to 1883. Widdifield served as deputy Grand Master for the Masonic order in the Toronto district and also served as provincial medical examiner for the order. Lake Nipissing (; , ) is a lake in the Provinces and territories of Canada, Canadian province of Ontario.
