''Riders of the Sky'' () is a Czechoslovak movie directed by Jindřich Polák in 1968 about Czechoslovak pilots in No. 311 Squadron RAF service during the Battle of Britain, and the ongoing aerial battle in northern Europe. Production The movie is based on the 1964 novel ''Nebeští jezdci'' by Czech World War II RAF and Soviet Air Force air gunner Richard Husmann, writing as Filip Jánský. Part of the inspiration for the novel was the story of , No. 311 Squadron RAF gunner and later No. 312 (Czechoslovak) Squadron RAF pilot, and a member of Guinea Pig Club. In 1969 Hodder & Stoughton published an English translation of the book as ''Riders in the Sky''. The name of the book was inspired by a country song '' Riders in the Sky'' by American songwriter Stan Jones. The song can be heard in the movie. Klecany is a town in Prague-East District in the Central Bohemian Region of the Czech Republic. It has about 3,900 inhabitants. Karel Janoušek
Karel Janoušek, (30 October 1893 – 27 October 1971) was a senior Czechoslovak Air Force officer. He began his career as a soldier, serving in the Austrian Imperial-Royal Landwehr 1915–16, Czechoslovak Legion#Ranks of the Czechoslovak Legion in Russia, Czechoslovak Legion 1916–20 and Czechoslovak Army 1920–24. In 1924 Janoušek transferred to the Czechoslovak Air Force and in 1926 he qualified as an aircraft pilot. In 1930 he co-wrote a textbook on aerial warfare Military tactics, tactics. In the 1930s he was a Staff (military), staff officer. From 1936 he studied meteorology and geophysics at the Charles University and in 1939 he was awarded a doctorate in natural sciences (RNDr). Elsie Randolph (9 December 1904 – 15 October 1982) was an English actress, singer and dancer. Randolph was born and died in London. She is best remembered for her partnership with Jack Buchanan in several stage and film musicals. She also appeared in two of Alfred Hitchcock's British films, made 40 years apart. ''Target for Tonight'' (or ''Target for To-Night'') is a 1941 British World War II documentary film billed as filmed and acted by the Royal Air Force, all during wartime operations. It was directed by Harry Watt for the Crown Film Unit. The film is about the crew of a Wellington bomber taking part in a bombing mission over Nazi Germany. The film won an honorary Academy Award in 1942 as Best Documentary by the National Board of Review. Despite purporting to be a documentary there are multiple indicators that it is not quite as such: film shots include studio shots taken from the exterior of the aircraft looking into the cockpit whilst "in flight"; several stilted sections of dialogue are clearly scripted; on the ground shots of bombing are done using model trains; and several actors appear, including Gordon Jackson as the young rear gunner.
