National Women's Hockey League (1999–2007)
The National Women's Hockey League (NWHL) was a women's ice hockey league established in Canada in service from 1999 to 2007. In its final season the league was run by the Ontario Women's Hockey Association. History The NWHL superseded the old Central Ontario Women's Hockey League in 1998–99. After the old COWHL dropped down to three teams in 1997–98, the new league expanded to Brampton, Ottawa and the Montreal area (Montreal, Bonaventure and Laval) in 1998–99. The league was officially renamed the National Women's Hockey League on February 16, 1999 with Susan Fennell as the league's first president/Commissioner. In the inaugural season, the Beatrice Aeros won the West Division while the Bonaventure Wingstar won the East Division. Premier Hockey Federation
The Premier Hockey Federation (PHF) was a women's professional ice hockey league in the United States and Canada that operated from March 2015 until June 2023. The league was established in 2015 as the National Women's Hockey League (NWHL), comprising four league-owned teams. Over time, some teams gained independent ownership and the number of teams grew to seven; teams during the league's final season in 2022–23 PHF season, 2022–23 included the Boston Pride, Buffalo Beauts, Connecticut Whale (PHF), Connecticut Whale, Metropolitan Riveters, Minnesota Whitecaps, Montreal Force, and Toronto Six. The Montreal Jofa Titan (1998–99) was a professional women's ice hockey team in the National Women's Hockey League (NWHL). The team played its home games at the Ed Meagher Arena in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. History Montreal Jofa Titan began in the Repentigny Senior AA League. The team won the 1995–96 regular season and the 1996 Senior AA Quebec provincial championship. The Jofa Titan joined the National Women's Hockey League (NWHL) in 1998–99. Brampton Thunder
The Markham Thunder was a professional women's ice hockey team in the Canadian Women's Hockey League (CWHL). From 1998 through 2017, the franchise was known as the Brampton Thunder and Brampton Canadettes-Thunder before relocating from Brampton, Ontario, to Markham, Ontario, for the 2017–18 season. The CWHL ceased operations in 2019 and no further statements or actions were taken with the franchise. Inefficient NWHL Management controversy * February 10, 2007: In a game against the Brampton Thunder, the game ended in controversy. The Montreal Axion had a 2–1 lead in the third period. Jesse Scanzano Jesse Scanzano (born October 15, 1988) is a Canadian retired ice hockey forward. She was selected fifth overall in the 2011 CWHL Draft. Mercyhurst's Jesse Scanzano was a three-time All-College Hockey America selection (2008–09, 2009–10, 20 ... scored two goals with assists going to Annie Derossiers, Cathy Chartrand and Melissa Roy. Brampton tied the game and Jesse Scanzanao missed an open net to put the game away. The teams ended up going to overtime. Annie Derossiers took a penalty at the 3:21 mark in overtime.
