Broad Run, Virginia
Broad Run is a small unincorporated village in Fauquier County, Virginia. It is on Bust Head Road just north of Interstate 66 and State Route 55 near the Prince William County line. ''Broad Run'' is named after the waterway that flows through the town. Broad Run has its own ZIP Code of 20137, and its post office serves a population of 1,510. The town of Broad Run was a thriving community in the late 19th century and early 20th century. The decline of the railroads spelled the demise of the town, and all that is left of the town proper is less than five homes from that period, and a few stone foundations and chimneys for buildings that no longer exist. A ramp for loading freight trains still exists on the still active Norfolk Southern freight line, but is covered with weeds and in such disrepair as to be no longer useful. Hume, Virginia
Hume is a small unincorporated village in Fauquier County, Virginia. Hume is five miles south of Interstate 66's Exit 18 and is named for the local Hume family. It runs along Virginia State Route 688. It is east of the Rappahannock County line. The community has a post office and ZIP Code of 22639, and is home to a local winery. History Hume was known as Barbee's Crossroads in the mid 19th century, after Joseph Barbee who leased the land from Denny Fairfax in 1787. The village was at the north end of the Leeds Manor Turnpike which was incorporated in 1848. The village's center is at the corner of Leeds of Manor Road (Route 688) and Hume Road (Route 635), formerly known as the "Crossroads". At one time, the village had three stores and four blacksmiths, a fourth store existed later. The large cattle farms in the surrounding areas employed many families. Paris, Virginia
Paris is a small unincorporated village in Fauquier County, Virginia, United States, near the borders of Loudoun and Clarke Counties. Located in Virginia's hunt country, it was established in a strategic spot at the eastern base of Ashby Gap along U.S. Route 17 and U.S. Route 50. History Peter Glascock acquired the deed for what became the town in 1786 from Kimball Hicks. The land had been part of the Northern Neck Proprietary and also part of Thomas Lord Fairfax's Leeds Manor. Hicks had operated a tavern nearby since 1782, and Glascock also operated a similar venture, both of which were sometimes cited for failure to adhere to the terms of their licenses.
