National People's Party (India)
The National People's Party is a national political party in India. It is mostly concentrated in Meghalaya. Founded by P. A. Sangma after his expulsion from the NCP in July 2012, it was accorded national party status on 7 June 2019. It is the first political party from North-Eastern India to have attained this status. History On 6 January 2013, P. A. Sangma launched the party at the national level. He announced an alliance with the National Democratic Alliance led by Bharatiya Janta Party. Sangma also reiterated that though the membership of the party is open to all, it shall be a tribal centric party. Sangma is a nine-time Member of Parliament. In July 2012, he refused to accept the party's decision to quit the 2012 Indian presidential election. Conrad Sangma
Conrad Kongkal Sangma (born 27 January 1978) is an Indian politician who is the 12th and current Chief Minister of Meghalaya since 2018. He is the national president of the National People's Party. His father, P. A. Sangma, was former Chief Minister and former Speaker of the Lok Sabha. Conrad Sangma was also a Member of Parliament from Tura (2016–2018). He has been representing the South Tura constituency since 2018 and had represented Selsella constituency from 2008 to 2013. Sangma was also Minister of Finance, Power and Tourism, Government of Meghalaya from 2008 to 2009. He has served as the Leader of the Opposition in the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly. 2012 Indian Presidential Election
The 14th indirect presidential election, in order to elect the 13th President, was held in India on 19 July 2012. The last date for filing nominations was 30 June, whereas the votes would be counted on 22 July. The two leading candidates for the presidency were former Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee from West Bengal and former Speaker of the Lok Sabha Purno Agitok Sangma from Meghalaya.
