Nascentes do Rio Parnaíba National Park () is a National park (Brazil), national park of Brazil. Location The park is in the cerrado biome. It covers . It was established on 16 July 2002, and is administered by the Chico Mendes Institute for Biodiversity Conservation. The park lies in parts of the municipalities of Formosa do Rio Preto in Bahia, Lizarda, Mateiros and São Félix do Tocantins in Tocantins, Alto Parnaíba in Maranhão, and Barreiras do Piauí, Corrente, Piauí, Corrente, Gilbués and São Gonçalo do Gurguéia in Piauí. Conservation Protected species in the park include the jaguar (''Panthera onca''), cougar (''Puma concolor'') and giant armadillo (''Priodontes maximus''). Giant Armadillo
The giant armadillo (''Priodontes maximus''), colloquially ''tatu-canastra'', ''tatou'', ''ocarro'' or ''tatú carreta'', is the largest living species of armadillo (although their extinct relatives, the Glyptodontidae, glyptodonts, were much larger). It lives in South America, ranging throughout as far south as northern Argentina. This species is considered vulnerable to extinction. The giant armadillo prefers termites and some ants as prey, and often consumes the entire population of a termite mound. Piauí ( ) is one of the states of Brazil, located in the country's Northeast Region, Brazil, Northeast Region. The state has 1.6% of the Brazilian population and produces 0.7% of the Brazilian GDP.
